Since coming here 15 years ago, she has devoted much time and patience to both the students and the school. Mayfair High has enjoyed the benefits of Mrs. Staudigel's teaching since the school's conception in 1959. She contributed greatly to the school's curriculum by founding both the instrumental and choral depart- ments. Mrs. Staudigel was born and raised in Kansas, where she attended the University of Kansas. There she was awarded both an A.B. degree and a B.M.E. degree. She then earned her M.A. while attending the Columbia Teacher's College, specializing in the trumpet. Her talents in this area were soon to be publically appreciated, for she became a member of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. It was here that she met her husband, Art. They have been married now for 20 years and have two daughters. jenny is a freshman at UCLA and Nancy a junior at Lakewood High School. As a result of her talent, enthusiasm and a lot of hard work, Mrs. Staudigel has produced many fine mu- sicians, who are still showing their gratitude by returning to Mayfair to thank her for all that she has done for them. Mrs. Staudigel's strong attachment and sense of dedication to the music department that she founded, helped her to decide not to accept a junior college teaching position, once offered. A decision that both the faculty and students was glad she made. Mrs. Staudigel's students reflect her efforts towards musical excellence by their accomplishments. They have participated in choral productions at the Hollywood Bowl eight times, The Princess Louise, The Ma- sonic Temple, the dedication of the new lacaboni Library and many more. Her students have also received many awards, which again says something of the quality of instruction they are receiving from a very dedi- cated and talented person. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to Mrs. Jeanne Staudigel for her devotion and many hours of hard work for the students and the school. It furnishes one with the opportunity to meet different people, perceive new ideas and learn new customs. Such a program breaks open racial prejudices, paving the way for better under- standing thus bringing men closer. Since the commencement of the school days, Mayfair has played an important role in my life. Although dif- ferences in school set-ups prevail, love for Mayfair abounds with me. impressing me far beyond nothing else is the existence of friendly relationships among everybody. The teachers are really niceg I don't feel like a stranger around here. I'm proud to be a student of Mayfair as I have been of my former school. I can expressly tell and proclaim to everybody-How lucky am I to be at Mayfair! -F. Noel A. Montenegro we--W-V K Noel finds drafting an interesting class. A The james Silers, with son jeff visit with Noel who spent part of the year at their home. 14 enrichment to their schools When I learned I was going to spend this year in Tur- key, my mouth just sort of hung open. Turkey! Cobble Gobble! I didn't know how lucky I was. The Turkish people are warm and friendly. The land is beautiful and the food is a dieter's Waterloo. School was a big change. The teachers dictate, and the students memorize. Although I studied more this year than ever before, I brought home more than my share of F's. I learned a million things that can't be measured in tests. Friendship, life, a smile, home, and even May- fair took on a new meaning and worth for me. Homecoming jmx broken The 1973 Varsity Football Team had three major goals as it began the season. First, to beat Bellflower, which it succesfully did by 21-13. Second, to win Homecoming game, which Mayfair did by beating Glenn 34-11. And third, to win the Suburban League title. Even with not winning the League title, there were several bright spots in their performance. The of- fensive team broke eight school records for rushing and passing and were able to place four men on the All-Suburban League first team. The defensive team placed three men on the All-Suburban League first team. If success is measured by the number of games won or lost, their 4-5 record makes them very unsuccessful, but if success is measured by the value of athletics as it prepares a person for later life, the 1973 season was a very successful adventure. 7461421234 1973 VARSITY COACHES- Clem Donaldson, Merlin Driggs, john Fitzpatrick, Larry Hilliard. 124 Being manager sure has its advantages. Mayfair and Cer- ritos High share the championship, with Mayfair placing four men in the first class positions, three in the third spot and two wrestlers in fourth. In addition, two wrestlers traveled through CIF preliminaries to the finals. Paul Thomp- son and Dave Diffine, at 130 and 178 lbs. W Ujfk., respectively, made the finals.
