70 Dawning of a new decade With the publication of this year- book, TRADEWINDS both opens and closes decades. The 1960 ' s were years of progress and development for May- fair. New teachers, a new principal, a relaxed dress code and the modular scheduling system started in the 60 ' s. Mayfair ' s athletic teams continued to win league championships. With the help of the Peace Corps, Mayfair built an elementary school in Peru. An or- phan in Arizona is being sponsored by money gathered from generous Mon- soons. 1970 is the Dawn of a New Decade. It is also the dawn of new ideals at Mayfair, new accomplishments, new students and new traditions for a young growing school.

The staff of the 1970 TRADEWINDS is proud to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Merle Bailey. His five years of dedicated service to Mayfair make him more than worthy of this honor. Since Mr. Bailey ' s first year at Mayfair, his list of duties has included teaching Spanish and History, coaching the Cee Basketball team, and he is currently Director of Activities. In 1967, he organized the May- fair branch of Key Club International, and has trans- formed it into one of the most important and active of campus service clubs. Mr. Bailey took the job of Di- rector of Activities in 1968 and has proved to be an outstanding administrator. His leadership and enthu- siasm has inspired the ASB cabinet and added greatly to his ability to coordinate all student activities. He was a guiding force behind Mayfair ' s school partner- ship program and the adoption of Jaime Medrano. We are proud to dedicate the eleventh edition of the TRADEWINDS to Mr. Merle Bailey, whose spirit and loyalty is inspiring our new decade. Battling his busy schedule Mr. Bailey still finds time for coaching the Monsoon Cee Basketball team. Coach Bailey can boast many league championships due to his loyalty and work with each individual team member. Mr. Bailey is respected for his unique way of classroom teaching mt m
