Mayfair High dawns new principal in 1969 Mr. Ken Davis became principal of Mayfair High School last year with the retirement of Richard Oswald. In his short time at the post, it can easily be seen that Mr. Davis will be of great benefit to MHS. His spirit and enthusiasm are enjoyed by all students and faculty members. Mr. Davis has been at Mayfair since 1963 as vice -principal of Sub-School III until this school year when he moved into the principal ' s office. Mr. Davis still finds time to attend many Monsoon athletic events and various activities. He enjoys talking to all the students and has held spcak-outs to listen to students ' opinions about individual campus problems. The appointment of Mr. Davis as MHS principal was a great addition to the dawn- ing of a new decade.

Monsoon Lynn Siegal travels to Japan on AFS program In June of 1969 Monsoon Lynn Siegal re- ceived a telegram from the New York office of the American Field Service. That was the first time she was assured a placement in the Americans Abroad Program. Lynn traveled to Japan for the summer months as a student tourist. She lived with a Japanese family in the city of Yokahama. The family consisted of her parents, brother, sister, aunt and grandmother. I loved my fam- ily, they were quiet, happy, warm and very withdrawn from emotion, said Lynn. Lynn explained that the Japanese world was very very different from America. It was hard for Lynn to feel at home sometimes but she learned to love and respect her family and all Japanese people. In Japan, all the schools are private and none are co-ed. Memorization is the only meth- od of study without any discussion in class. College entrance exams are given only once and if they are not passed the chances of col- lege are gone. Senior Lynn said that she would love to see everyone go abroad if given the chance. Trav- eling expands the mind. Members of Lynn ' s Japanese family help her pack for home. Just before Lynn ' s departure for America this flag exchange took place in front of her Japanese school.
