One of these smiles belongs to Mrs. Joyce Gough, who handles a multitude of tasks and still manages to smile. She has been activities clerk since the job was created in 1961, and has developed it into one of the most active and indispensable positions at Mayfair. Mrs. Gough was born and educated in England before moving to the United States and taking up residence in Los Angeles in 1946. Just this past year she celebrated her lOth vear in America, and her lOth year as a United States citizen. As student bodv accounts clerk, Mrs. Gough has the touchy responsibility of keeping track of all funds taken in and expended by all ASB organizations, a task which amounts to handling thousands of dollars each year. Mrs. Gough also helps handle main office business traffic. , , , u- u ii In six years service to Mayfair, she has shown a dedication and loyalty which all of us have admired. r j . j - . . Before that she was an art teacher and counselor at Bellflower High School. Her initial degree ; earned at Iowa State University, and she took additional training at the University of Southern California and California State College at Long Beach. She ! a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary organization for women in education. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed people. She worked hard at her job as counselor, and did whatever she could to be of help to the students who came to her. She was a lady — reserved and gentle. Her warmth, humor and depth of feeling were evident to all with whom she was associated. Her concern was always for the other person, never for herself. Her last three weeks of service from January 30 to February 23, 1967, illustrated the courage of which she was capable. March 10, 1967, was both the day on which she died, and also the day on which she was to be honored for her 31 years of faithful service to education. Death removes the physical presence of a human being; it cannot remove the spirit. Ila Thomas ' passing will be mourned, but her death must only etch the continuity of memory into sharper focus. In retrospect, she was a wonderful person. Those of us who knew her are grateful that she passed this way. enior MOST INTELLECTUAL Ken Lewis Jenine Mescher BEST DRESSED Linda Christison Chuck Ozanian MOST LIKELy TO SUCCEED Sylvia Keulen Rod Green BEST PERSONALITY Terri Bezanson Mike Caldwell 60 a Jarae v n be;st looking Anitra Shumard John Wilson (Not Pictured) CLASS FLIRTS Linda Lona Larry Allsup c:lass clowns Eric (Tennessee) Parton Kddie (;ol b MOST SPIRITK.D Thom Crefter (.:ollcen Masters 61 EXPRESSIONS OF ADMINISTRATION The faculty is a small united society . . .
