ES BBS III T PUBLISHED by the SENIOR CLASS OF 1958 MAYETTA RURAL HIGH SCHOOL Mayetta, Kansas rfi1! 111B Nancy Roberts Verna Nocktonick Ted Cummings Clif Walder Glenda Ely Marge Fitzgerald Jerry Shields Norwood Nocktonick Roy Walrod Roy Coleman Frank Winter Roger Cox Mr. Tallent Sponsor Oran Daugherty Barbara Daugherty Mr. Platter In loving memory of the Daugherty Twins. Barbara and Oran and Mr. Harrison Platter. We, The Sen- ior Class of Mayetta High School. 1958, wish to dedicate this annual. Barbara and Oran were killed in an automobile accident. November 26, 1957 and Mr. Platter died November 27, 1957, following an attack of pneumonia. Barbara, a senior, and Oran, a junior, will always be remembered by their classmates for their sunny, cheerful dispositions and thoughtfulness of others. Mr. Platter, our Mathematics teacher for more than two years was, by nature, a retiring person but he was vitally interested in young people and their problems. He was never too busy to help a student. There are no friends like old friends, And none so good and true; We greet them when we meet them. As roses greet the dew; No other friends are dearer. Though born of kindred mold; And while we prize the new ones. We treasure more the old. There are no friends like old friends. Where’er we dwell or roam. In lands beyond the ocean, Or near the bounds of home; And where they smile to gladden, Or sometimes frown to guide. We fondly wish those old friends Were always by our side. There are no friends like old friends, To calm our frequent fears, When shadows fall and deepen Through life’s declining years; And when our faltering footsteps Approach the Great Divide, We’ll long to meet the old friends, Who wait on the other side. Clifton Walder, the president, of our class, always enjoys the company of a nice lass. Jerry Shields is full of pep and steam, when girls are near he's there on the beam. Marge Fitzgerald is the class secretary, when boys are present she'll never tarry. Kaay Roberts is a cute little dish, becoming Mrs. C. Bowers is her wish. Donald Brenner who is known as our king , we will also remember him with his arm in a sling. Verna Nocktonick is our shorthand queen, she seems to be studying whenever seen. Here comes a boy his name is Paul Ray, he wears a smile both night and day. Roy Coleman loves to play ball, all through the seasons, spring, winter and fall. Roy Walrod is a country cousin, he can get the girls a dime a dozen. Nancy Payne is next on our list, a newcomer to our class is one cute miss. Frank Winter is athletic bound. when girls are present he can't be found. Roger Cox is quiet and shy, he is known to all as a real nice guy. When it comes to art, we turn to Norwood Nocktonick, he can draw anything from serious to comic. Ted Cummings is our boy that can sing, he's our pal and he doesn’t lack a thing. Bernard Fiedler joined our class again this year. Bunny filled it with lots of good cheer. Glenda Ely the shortest of them all, seems to pick on the one's that are tall. GONE GATHERINGS and Sponsor Vera Davidson Our first Kayette meeting last fall was devoted to becoming acquainted with the new girls and selling them on the idea of joining our group. Every girl accepted the invitation. Officers elected this year are: Marge Fitzgerald, President; Patty Cox, Vice President; Nancy Payne, Secretary; and Glenda Ely, Treasurer. Halloween found us celebrating with a party. Afterwards we surprised the newly organized Kay group by serving refreshments to them. We provided numbers for the Thanksgiving and Christmas assemblies, gave a Thanksgiving basket to a family, went caroling, enjoyed our usual heart-beat letters and Valentine Party, entertained the eighth grade girls and our mothers at a tea and contributed to several welfare projects. and Sponsor Dwaine Tallent The Mayetta Kay group was organized in November 1957 as the result of a discussion between Mr. Spear and Mr. Tallent, as fo the desirability of forming a Kay group in our school. The first Meeting, called for the purpose of organizing the group, was held October 21, with Mr. Brice Durbin, Assistant Executive Secretary of the Kansas Association for Youth, presiding. Twenty seven boys joined our group with Mr. Dwaine Tallent as our sponsor. Officers are: Clif Walder, President; Don Brenner, Vice President; Charles James, Secretary; and Elroy Me Alexander, Treasurer. We had Christmas and Valentine parties with the Kayettes. As a project we sponsored a basketball game, the proceeds of which we donated to the March of Dimes. mlnmtaik fk 1 MJmmA Compliments of DENISON STATE BANK SHAKE RATTLE Roger Cox - Def. H. B.
