English Prep 1 English Prep is an experimental ju- nior high elective arts class. This is the second year it has been offered at Mayberry. This class learns about journalism, and has compiled several newspapers and the Mayberry yearbook. Other areas of study for these honor students include a unit of drama, in which several plays are performed for the school, a debate unite, and a speech unit. The purpose of this experimental N-ms' tshn class in covering these areas is to in- sugar, 1 . We troduce the students to them for future participation in high school. Student Council Student Council is the legislative body at Mayberry. lt's sponsors are Mrs. Whittington, Mrs. Freed, and Mrs. Cramer. The officers for the first semester were: Ty Richardson, presi- dent 5 Cindy Aiken, secretaryg Mitch Malmgrem, treasurer, Matt Totten, sargeant -at -arms . Student council promotes student participation in government. 52 You' re probably wondering why I called you to- gether, says Ty Richardson. Well, I'l1 tell you ---l don't know. King nd ueen The King and Queen were elected this year in order to raise money for the United Fund. There were two girls and two boys nominated from each class. After two days of voting, Melissa Martin and Brad Cooper were elected. The amount collected was 359. 83. Ninety percent of the money went to needy children and teenagers.
