Art The stress of the Art Department of Mayberry is to give the student an understanding and apprecia- tion of art. The projects involved are created by silversmithing, painting, sketching, leather work- ing and brass and copper crafting. The Art Depart- ment contributes to stage settings also. LEACH LEADS Shirley Pendergrass, Debbie Baker and Renee DeTar in a song in class. Music The teachers of the Music Department teach the Subject matter in several different ways. Some of them are teaching the fundamentals of notes, scales, octaves, and composers. They also have several singing groups such as Eighth Glee Club, Mixed Chorus and Girls' Ensemble. The instrumental section consists of two bands and an orchestra. All three groups play a variety of music from show tunes to classical music. 33

LLoYD o'rT Industrial Arts One of the functions of the Industrial Arts Department is to help develop talents of the stu- dents' hands. There are three divisions in the department! metals, woodworking, and printing. Some of the different projects in the shop classes are printing projects for the school, printing stationery, and printing numerous other things. In woodworking classes students make furniture and in the metals classes students make lamps and tools. KR . X-N MR. ALLISTON POINTS out to Mitchell Malmgren how to use a machine. Homemaking There are two different homemaking classes in this department: one for cooking and one for sew- ing. ln the sewing classes students make such things as dresses, blouses, skirts and aprons. In cooking classes, the girls learn how to cook such things as cookies, cakes, pies and candies and how to prepare fruits and vegetables. The goal of the Homemaking Department is to teach girls how to follow directions and how to cook and sew. MRS. WILMA BLIDE MRS.
