The May Tigers opened their 1954 football schedule wrth Strawn High at Strawn. Thrs was a little early in the season and ln facing a very good ball club the inex perrenced Tigers went down to a 50 0 defeat, The team as a whole showed it need ed a lot of work, Our next game was wrth arch rrval Rrslng Star and agarn we lost 20 '7 but only after we had played a good ball game factually the last half be longed to Mayj A couple of mistakes by boys playrng theu fust ball game really hurt us. All hands played a good game Our next game was wrth Woodson Hrgh whrch we soundly thrashed 31 0 They were supposed to have beaten us but we turn ed the tables Dean Key scored 4 touchdowns Benny Cook, Kenneth Willett and the entire team played their best game of the season. Our next game was with Early and we lost 49 20 We never recovered from the first two or three plays of the game We were outweighed about 14 pounds per man but we never gave up Next was Moran High We once agarn kept May s slate clean wrth them by beatmg Leon B This game was lost by over confrdence We let them get too far ahead to catch up They did not cross the 50 yard line the last half Our first conference game was with Blanket who beat us 32 6 We played on even terms throughout the fust three quarters but too many mrstakes and some good spmted ball playing by Blanket beat us Once again all players played a good game Rxchland Spnngs really ran over us mainly because we were out classed They beat us 50 7 but the entire bunch of Tigers showed they would not grve up even though the odds were great. Melvin came to May expecting to run over us but they were drsappornted because we soundly outplayed them only to lose 14 6 lt was one of those games where everything was perfect until we hrt the goal hne then we did everythrng wrong Our last game was wrth Rochelle Hlgl there We lost 33 13 but played a better game than t.he score mdicated The srx boys who played t.helr last game wrll be missed. them 21-0.
