Prophecy On the nrght of May 9 1965 I alrghted at the door of the large hotel where the fmt reunron of the 1955 graduatmg class of Maxwell I-hgh School was to be held I stared about me at tl1e beautrful and rmposrng burldrng and at the steady stream of well dressed patrons passrng through the entrance and on rnto the spacrous drnrng room Ten years befae when we 1955 senrors were graduatrng thrs hotel had been only a small drive rn Goffs old srgn had been torn down and replaced by a large artrstrc srgn whrch I tmmedrately recognrzed as one of Beverly s own ortgrnal orls As I stepped rnto the lobby I was greeted by Beverly Goff When I remarked about the beautrful hotel Bever ly told me that she was strll mterested rn art and desrgnmg Just as she was back rn our hrgh school days She had not only parnted the beauttful hotel srgn but had even desrgned and burlt the hotel She had also parnted srgns for almost every busrness house rn Maxwell and even had orders from frrms rn Wrllow Branch and Mohawk Beverly had a greetrng from Janet Swans who rs lrvrng rn Japan Janet rs head of a modelrng school for young Japanese grrls whrle her husband a colonel rn the Au Force, 15 statroned rn that country Iheard an old fam1l1a.r laugh and Betty Jean Pyles came rn She looked qurte prosperous She sard her husband had become wealthy as a contractor and that they were lrving rn Alaska Betty was happy to be w1th us and not snow bound for once Alrce Anne Kiser had the look of a grrl who had spent long hours out of doors and enroyed rt She and her husband lrve rn a large old fashroned farmhouse near Charlottesvrlle Alrce has a mrlk route and her cottage cheese and buttermrlk are much rn demand in that communrty I understand that thrs route has helped pay for ther: nrce farm I thought thrs wonderful as Alice Anne had never operated a churn untrl after graduatron Joan Walls opened a boardrng home tn Greenfreld but her busrness soon folded up as she marned her boarder We heard a loud vorce bellowmg orders to the hotel doorman and George Phrllrps came rn wearmg a unrform beanng the rnsrgnra of a Frrst Sergeant He told us that he had been very successful trarning young recrurts when she was producmg the senror play Bther Welbom rs now a well known trapeze and acrobatrc strmt artrst wlth a crrcus She also credrts much of her success to our senror play That rs where she fust practiced the art of tumblrng wrthout serrous rnjury Annabelle Ellrott rs a l1on tamer wrth the same crrcus A smartly dressed young woman bustled in and signed Janet Lee Kuhn, We were all aware of Janet Lee s successful career as Presrdent and General Manager of Wrckers Wonder Worm Extermrnattng Co whrch IS wrdley advertrsed rn all the leadrng farm magazrnes She formed a partnershrp wtth an old fnend who brought home a surplus arrplane when he left the Arr Force They have made a fortune dustrng frelds for cabbage and tomatoworms Joe Rousch had garned a lrttle werght He now werghs over 200 lbs Joe sard he was a salesman for the Happy Canary Bud Seed Company Tom Wrlson attended Rarnbow Beauty Academy and now has hrs own chan in lake Suttous barber Shop and gtves permanents and manrcures to all lady customers We were all surprised at the change ten years had made ln Owen Jay Copeland He was qurte thm and very nervous He carrred a large brrefcase wrth the word Glas printed on the srde He was a salesman for Bamey s Ort Rate Diamonds wrth headquarters rn Chicago and was combrnrng busi.ness with pleasure on this trip He was here to attend the reunron and to sell the 1965 seniors some dramond rrngs, Hence his care of the brrefcase, rt contarned some of his best samples Valeeta Burnham told us that soon after graduatron, she took her drum sucks and beat it to Chicago where she obtained a 1ob playing wrth one of the largest bands in the mid west Manetta Olrver one of the most rndustnous members of the class, saved her money and wrth her expenence in the grocery busmess 18 now the owner of a large Super Marker Marlene Strver told me she was dean of a nursing school in Maxwell and was enloyrng every mrnute of rt, Barbara Rose came 111 lookrng sober and drgnified She told us that she now occupred Mrss Runks Old Chair m Sensor English. She has been teachrng at Maxwell for several years now We were all famrlrar with Larry Kelly s success as head basketball coach at Purdue Miss Runk on the verge of a nervorn breakdown after seeing us safely through graduation and our Sensor nip took a boat to darkest Afrtca Here she met a young missionary and they were married as soon as the boat docked Now she feels repaid for all her labors at Maxwell, Her experience teaching us has proved invaluable rn teaching the heathen After hearmg the exciting success stories of my classmates, I was ashamed to tell them I was so busy wrrtrng for the annual I forgot to look for a job Consequently, I was forced to take a positron wrth a Greenfield paper writrng a Lonely Hearts column, I wrll be out of a Job if my readers ever drscover that I am Just a lonely old maid myself , , . Jane Alice Lewman, George said many of his training ideas with the young men had been borrowed from Miss Runk back in the days
