column CLASS PIHIPHECY Early 1n the summer of 1964 I heard a loud knock1ng at the k1tchen door of our farm home Upon answerlng lt, I saw a tall rather soph1st1 cated looklng lady stand1ng alone at the door I thought that I should know her but wasn't sure untll she told me that her name was Loretta Souder She told me that her helxocopter was QIVIHQ her trouble and that she was forced to land 1n our pasture Almost 1mmed1ately we began to talk of our school days and about the other members of that great class of 1904 Loretta suppl1ed me wrth a very 1nterest1ng hlstory of each of them Loretta had been wr1t1ng a newspaper for the past few years along w1th tryxng to catch her man In tra vel1ng one of dr1ven become he was wr1tten of the soc1ety group that d1ned at the famous Chlcago She told me that th1s famous d1n1ng room was over the country, she had seen Frlsco Young, who 15 a conductor on the tra1ns to the West Coast She also ment1oned that she has been to many of her ass1gnments by Gene Howrey 1n h1s Cad1l1ac Gene had a very successful and prosperous race dr1ver We both remarked that off to a good start 1n h1gh school Many of Loretta's art1cles were WBCK restaurant operated by Dorothy W1ll1ts, Jeanle Branock, D1x1e Copeland, and Harle K1ng On one tr1p wh1le fly1ng from the East Coast, she dressed women and recognlzed them to be Jane M1ller and were fly1ng back to the1r race horse farm 1U lentucky had met two smartly JHHIS Ballard They One of her 1nter vlews was wlth the mayor of Ind1anapol1s, Nr Thomas Macy Mayor Macy sa1d that h1s exper1ence as presldent of our class of 1954 had proved 1nvaluable to h1m 1n h1s wolk 1n th1s h1gh adm1n1strat1ve pos1t1on Many of her tr1ps were made on buses of the Burch and Clark L1ne Bob and Ph1l have developed the1r l1ne 1nto one of the largest 1n the M1d Vest wh1le travel1ng on the1r buses, she had met Patsy kelly and Alberta Young Pat had recently been appo1nted dean of the Purdue Un1vers1ty Nursery School and tlberta was secretary to the presldent Loretta also had 1nterv1ewed the f1rst woman to be elected to the U S Senate from the State of Indlana, MISS Betty Frost She had recently had word that Leta McClmnner and Isabelle Trees had both attalned hlgh ranks 1h the WAC and were stat1oned 1n Afr1ca T asked her about Jack Delhagen and Bob Frost She told me that they were d1gg1ng d1tches, but were USIUQ the largest CQUIPMCHI 1n the world wh1ch they also manufactured They had Just returned from South Amerlca where they had changed the course of the Amazon RIVCT After spend1ng the nlght wlth me and HHVIHQ the hellocopter repa1red, Loretta was ready for the pursult of her man For ten years she had chased h1m, but Ralph Cook's s1xth sense had kept h1m a couple of hours ahead of er I must close for now, and as Mr Sample would say, 'Back to the salt m1nes N Norma Zapf Class of '54 Page Ten . . .
