Marlene Ratzlaff, secretary, was appointed at the first meeting. The student council sponsored the Homecoming dance, with the County Fann playing. In November the group organized an experimental youth center at the V. F. W. Hall. In February, the council raflled a stuffed dog at the carnival, held to raise money for new stage curtains. A bake sale to raise money and a revision in the dress code were included in their activities also. Pat 8L Bill in charge of the stand. The Student Council at Homecoming

H0 OR OCIE TY The Maxwell Chapter of the National Honor Society was established in October of 1970. Eight members from the junior and senior classes and one provisional member from the sophomore class were chosen by a faculty coun- cil of tive. They were installed at a high school assembly by the Collins Honor Society. Members were chosen for their qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. The Honor Society helped sponsor the high school Christmas party with the FTA. During Earth Week, the group led a clean-up project on the highways leading from Maxwell. A rummage sale was held as a money raising project. In April, three new members, one new provisional member, and an honorary member fKarl Rabej were in- stalled. Kresse, G Gale. Cindy and Barb at district The Future Homemakers of America continued this year to be a thriving organization. In June, Mrs. Zehnder and Barb Lowe attended a two-day district president's workshop at ISU. In Aug- ust, the district planning meeting was held at our school to plan for the district meeting which was then held here on September 19. Barb Lowe presided and Cindy Sandquist was installed as district music chairman. Our local chapter made preparations for the installation and operated a concession stand. In December, the chapter sponsored a Christmas dance. They also sponsored a Christmas door decoration contest. In February a pie sale was held to raise money. The group also had a boutique at the winter carnival. Three girls attended state convention at Hotel Fort Des Moines in March. The chapter took a field trip in March to the FHA'ers try to sell their wares at winter carnival. Woodward State Hospital and School, taking cupcakes along for the kids there. During FHAWeekin April, a Teacher Appreciation Day was recognized. In May a slave sale was attempted to earn money. The chapter also conducted a very successful drive in May for Multiple Sclerosis. The year was completed with the installation of '71-'72 officers following a mother-daughter potluck supper.
