OUR PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE A yearbook is a special sort of storybook. It tells a different story to each person who reads it, and sometimes different stories to the same person. Some people will ‘‘read” the pictures of the various activities and re- member something that will make that person happy. Some of you will laugh, or think that party was great or maybe not fun at all. As you look at the faces, faces without words, the stories you “read” may be happy thoughts. Maybe you will remember how angry that person made you feel, or maybe made you afraid. You may read about kindness in a face; maybe prejudice; maybe love. I encourage you to “read” this special book with your own stories about 1989, look carefully at your face and think o f it in the next yearbook. That next yearbook is just one year away. The stories you “read” next year will be determined by what you think about and do between now and that next yearbook. Determine now to make next year’s stories good ones. MR. UNDERWOOD “OUR SCIENCE WONDER” Mr. Rufus Underwood is one of our many talented science teachers at Maxson, and we're sorry to say he’s retiring. Before Mr. Underwood came to Maxson he taught at Booker T. Washington high school in Virginia, where he was also a science teacher. In 1968 Mr. Underwood came to Maxson school to teach science. While working at Maxson as a science teacher he was active in many extra-curricular activities such as: Basketball coach — 10 years Football coach — 15 years Science Director in Plainfield — 5 years Head of Science Department — 12 years We will certainly miss seeing his firm but caring face, and his humorous remarks. We at Maxson wish him the best of luck and God’s speed. adi
