To The Future. It -was spring and almost time for graduation. As I walked over the meadows one starry night, I thought of the future. What would it bring to each member of the graduating class of 1960? I dropped to the ground beside a babbling brook. As I watched the moonlight scatter its beams through the ripples, I fell into a deep sleep. When I opened my eyes, it seemed as though fifteen years had passed. I was viewing people and places I had never seen before. But Avait! I did know some of them. They were the members of the graduating class of 1960. The curtain goes up at the Metropolitan Opera House as JOHNNIE SUE WEBB makes her opening debut in the leading role of Mimi. A rocket zooms by! Why, it ' s WILLIS MURPHY and his family on their way back to earth. They just spent a wonder- ful vacation on his little farm on the moon. HERMAN BRAXTON is coach of a top-notch team at the University of California. They haven ' t lost a game since Herman began his job there five years ago. SHIRLEY BOWOs is head nurse in a large hospital in Virginia. She married a local boy. The girls who take Home Economics at the Consolidated School of Greene County are really enjoying their work. They have two wonderful teachers — JUDY W ' ALLS and DOROTHY MOORING, graduates of East Carolina College. LINTIIA OWENS, the former Lindia Bowen, is now living in Florida where her husband, Bill, is stationed in the Air Force . CAROLE DAIL and W ' lLSON WADE were married soon after graduation. After serving a few years in the Air Force, Wilson, with his wife and children, settled down in the suburbs of the city of Snow Hill where he now serves as Mayor. J. D. HUGHES became Sheriff of the town of Maury. He and his Deputies— JIMMY ALBRITTON, KENNETH HEATH, and STANLEY TAYLOR are doing a wonderful job keeping the town a nice place in which to live. It seems as though a few of our classmates made it up to Washington, D. C. LEWIS GRAY is now serving as President of the United States. LANE FAULKNER, HERBERT GRAVES, FRANKLIN HINSON, and EDWARD WRALEY are members of his cabinet. We ' re right in the middle of an election in North Carolina. BOBBY WADE and KENNETH WORTHINGTON are run- ning for Governor. May the best man win! MILDRED DAVIS and ELAINE WADE are operating a Ladies ' Beauty Shoppe in Goldsboro. They ' re keeping up with ALL the gossip these days. PATSY HILL, after much studying, became a Private Secretary. She ' s wearing a big diamond now. Wonder if it ' s from the boss? LEMUEL BOWEN graduated from Yale University recently. The new sign on his door reads: Dr. Lemuel Bow’en. CHARLES COX discovered oil on his farm and is now the richest man in Greene County. DANNY DAUGHERTY graduated from a Law’ School in California and now has an outstanding practice in North Carolina. GERALDINE MURPHY, after marrying her childhood sweetheart, finds joy and contentment in running the Greene County Pet Shop in Snow’ Hill. Aside from being wives, the Bunn twins, REBA and RETHA have a great comedy act on television station W.N.C.T. • at 4:30 every evening. JOHNNY RAY STANLEY left Elvis w’ay behind in the dust when he became a Rock and Roll singer. Johnny also writes in his spare time. His latest book is entitled, 1 Was My Teachers ' s Idol. HILDA VANDIFORD and CAROLYN MAY became bookkeepers for the Du Pont Plant of Kinston. They thank their lucky stars that Mrs. Allen was their bookkeeping teacher. WILLIAM EARL BROWN surprised everyone by becoming a professor of English. He says Mrs. Taylor was his inspi- ration. After enjoying a school life full of mischief, ROBERT WHITLEY became the Pastor of the Methodist Church in Maury. Because of their friendship, LOUVENIA BUNN and ELLA MARIE GRANT went into Nurses ' Training together. They are now both Registered Nurses at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Who is that strict judge everyone is talking about these days? Why, it ' s none other than JAMES IVEY MOORING, who now resides in Snow Hill. JOHNNY MACK JONES joined the Air Force after graduating . Later he went to college and studied Engineering. He ' s doing well for himself these days. BILLY MAYO became manager of a chain of Colonial Stores in Wisconsin. He ' s a very wealthy man now. All forms soon began to fade and I came back to the present. A feeling of amazement came over me as I realized what I had witnessed; a revelation of the future of the graduating class of ' 60. May the best come to each of them. ELLA MARIE GRANT Prophetess 15
