In this section of the Commodore. we have included our clubs and organizations. These societies are made up of stu- dents who wish to further their interest in various subiects. Through the medium of these activities, we, the students of Maury, have developed co-operation and school spirit. Clubs, such as the Y-Teens and the two Hi-Y's, promote good fellowship and thus obtain a clearer conception of their fellow students' views and opinions. French and Spanish clubs are formed to further our knowl- edge of other cultures. Our language organizations carry on active correspondence with students abroad and promote friendly relations. Students interested in journalism and other phases of lit- erary works have the opportunity of becoming members of any one of Maury's publications: the Commodore. the Maury News. or the Mapmaker. The Math Club is open to students wishing to advance their knowledge in the field of mathematics. Still fairly new here at Maury, is the Bible Club, for stu- dents actively interested in Bible study. The F. T. A. gives pupils, interested in teaching as a career, a fine opportunity to get advanced experience. Besides these clubs mentioned, there are many more which enable each student to seek and find a group to his liking and interest. Urgaui ation

wfxm' A AT tw t i s :ss 1 EQ , X ' A . Z, ,tr t Looking over the results oi the year's hard work are COMMODORE co-editors lane Blake and Ann Lee Quincy. They may indeed be proud of the finished product. MAUIRY' Our COMMODORE, the forty-second edition oi the Maury yearbook, an annual publication by and for Maury students, is a book which we hope will be treasured by each of you through the years to come. Countless hours of hard work have gone into the making of this annual, for We, the staff of '52, have striven to give you a true version of life at Maury. For weeks and months and even many hours after school, staff members typed frantically, identified pictures, sorted out copy, and rushed about school rounding up information in order to meet deadlines. Words such as dummy and copy became everyday utterances of staff members as they be- came familiar with the planning and printing of a yearbook, Besides the regular duties of a yearbook staff, such as editing of copy, art work, photography, and typing of copy, We had the responsibility of soliciting ads from local businessmen. However, through the combined efforts of all staff members, the COMMODORE was finally put together, section by section, with the desire to create for you a clear and accurate pictorial record of the year's most outstanding events. So here it is-your COMMODORE. We hope that for years to come, looking through this book, you will be able to recall the days you spent at Maury in 1951-52.
