Leading our Norfolk school system and heading our School Board is Mr. l. I. Brewbaker. The job of Superintendent of Nor- folk's Schools carries great responsibility, but under Mr. Brew- baker's leadership the School Board has made rapid progress in the development of our system. His capable assistant, Mr. Edwin L. Lamberth, has given him invaluable aid. These men frequently visit the city schools to examine the work of the faculties and student bodies. They have pioneered in improved negro and white schooling, new buildings and teachers. The finest school system in Norfolk's history is the goal toward which they are working. l 1 7 7 I. I. One of the most civic-minded groups in the city is the Norfolk City School Board, composed of Mr. S. C. Larnpert, Chairman: Mrs. A. O. Calcott, Vice-Chairman: Mr. M. Farley Powers, Mr. B. D. Melchor, Ir., Mr. Crawford Rogers, and Mr. Iarnes A. Carney. This unsalaried group administers the public school system, giving their time, thought, and effort in carrying on successfully the work before them. The Norfolk School Board is a member of the Associated Public School Systems, a new organization which studies and plans to develop educational policies. Edwin I.. Lamberth, I. I.
