January Class History February, 1943-Full of excitement and anticipation we, the class of January, 1946, left our respective junior high schools to unite into a larger group at Maury. Mr. Bristow welcomed us with a talk which enlightened our bewilderment and made us feel at home. After being assigned to various home rooms, we found, to our delight, many of our former classmates. i Thus we became a part of Maury. 1, Our life began in full swing starting with the Maury Minstrel Show. The clubs, sports, and various other activities offered marvelous opportunities for those who wished to take advantage of them. It was in this year that the Maury News was revived under the leadership of Mrs. Margaret Markley, and Maury won its second victory over Granby. In September, Miss Frances Harrell was chosen as our class sponsor, and the class of '46 became organized with the election of class oflicers. Time rolled on and we became juniors. Absorbed in the interests and activities of Maury, we continued to grow physically and mentally. Mr. Old left us to assume his new position on the school board, and he was succeeded by Mr. B. T. Tatem. Our class was well represented in both the Valentine and the Fashion shows which were a great success. The time has gone by so rapidly in our high senior year that we become panic-stricken when we realize how short the time is and how many things there are to be done. After anxiously awaiting the results of exams, we finally assembled for the last time as the Com- mencement exercises took place. Although it seems wonderful to have graduated, we will miss the grand times that we have had at Maury. To all those, faculty and student body, who have contributed in making our high school years full and rich with friendship and knowledge, we give our thanks! VIRGINIA Moons, Class Secremry. I
