They stumble, and they have no light ' By which their seeking feet may find A pathway through the scowling night. Yet always one has eyes that peer Beyond the fog and mist and rain. One breaks the way through doubt and fear To rind for them the way again, And men move on- The multitude oftmen are weak. They quail before a 'crushing foeg In panic rush and never seek To rise and strive and overthrow. But still there's one to rise and stand Against the thing from which they Hee,- One with strong and steady hand To lift the bar that sets them free, And men move on- The multitude of men will doubt A leader's strength and thoughts and skillg In scorn,' his dearest ideals Hout, And jeer and mock his earnest willg But firmer still he pleads his cause, Defies his mockers face to face, And when God calls to him to pause, Another comes to take his place And lead men on. -Helen Baxter Smith, 135.
