UlC SporU SporU lllD Each year, the week preceding Homecoming is designated as “Spirit Week.” Students from Maur Hill and the Mount, representing each class, compete in various ac- tivities to prove that they have the most spirit. This year, the activities featured such events as the suit case race, the car pack, powder-puff football, the scoop-race, and the Alumni- Intramural champion football game. The class of ’77 prevailed as the most spirited class for the se- cond consecutive year. The annual bonfire Friday night concluded the “Spirit Week” festivities. 114 Activities Mock King, Joe Muraski with his escort. The glorious bonfire as it stood before. As the crowd thins out. This year’s bonfire, was built by the Sophomores, they demonstrated that the class of ’79 was really a part of Maur Hill. Both Sophomore classes cooperated actively in the growth of the bonfire. As students watch it bum. This year’s bonfire was a scant 26 feet in height, even though the group of dedicated Sophomores worked very hard on this piece of art. The girls from the Mount made the Holton dummy, which was put on the top of the bonfire to bum. The lack of rain during the summer months made the Sophomore class skeptical on the question if their structure was to be burnt or not. When the word came through to go ahead and build, the sophomores started instantly. Even though it did not break any records, the ’76 bonfire demonstrated the spirit that made up the difference in height. 116 Activities Intramural candidates Left to Right Alice O’Keefe and Amy Kassen. Candidates being escorted Left to Right by Joe Muraski, Bill Myers, and Gary Grosdidier. The intramural queen was an- nounced at the Alumni-Student Flag Football game during Spirit Week and was chosen by the in- tramural teams. Amy Kassen, junior candidate, was crowned queen and was escorted by Joe Muraski, who had been chosen Mock King at the powder-puff game. She represented the un- derclassmen at the Homecoming game. Peggy Nass was the freshman candidate and Alice O’Keefe, the sophomore candidate. Queen candidates I,eft to Right Carol Clements, Sheila Cummings, Nancy Richardson, Sue McGinnis, Roxanne Begley. On Saturday, October 16, the Homecoming queen was announced during the half-time ceremonies at the Maur Hill-Holton game at Amelia Earhart Stadium. At halftime the Homecoming Queen candidates, Roxane Begley, Carol Clemens, Sam Cummins, Susie McGin- nis, and Nancy Richardson were es- corted by their fathers and the honor of announcing the queen was given to George Sauer, class of 1953. Mr. Sauer is the president of the Maur Hill Alumni Club. Roxane Begley was crowned Homecoming Queen. 118 Activities King Phil Miller and Queen Linda Fetach pose with candidates. Winter Formal turned out to be very successful and entertaining. The students danced to the loud music of Dynaflow and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a fine time. The king and queen of the dance were Seniors Phil Miller and Linda Fetsch and they were picked by the the students of both Maur Hill and the Mount, from a choice of five students from both schools and everyone seemed to be quite pleased with the outcome of the election. All in all it turned out to be one of the better dances of the year. Luis Garcia enjoys the beat along with other students. Joe Muraski enjoys a slow step as the dance move Maurites enjoy the mood set by Dynaflow during the Winter formal dance. The actors take a second curtain call as the crowd thins out. This years play was directed by Frank Myers with the supervision of Mrs. Linda Stecher, Mr. Mike Ran- dall, and Gary Mitchell. The title of the play was Balloon Shot. It consisted of a one act, one scene prison break. The characters were Pudalo, (Charles Cindric), Desmond, (Robert Gotcher), Mickey, (Neil Perez), Squeek, (Aaron DeWald), 1st guard, (Mike Munden) and 2nd Guard (Mike Mitchell). Although it was a short play it was enjoyed by all who came and saw it and we are looking forward to next years plays................ Squeek (Aaron DeWald) and Mickey (Neil Perez) try to refrain Pudalo (Charles Cindric) from attacking Desmond, (Robert Gotcher) during the fight scene. The actors get together to study a few more lines. Every one turned out to have a hoe- down to the night of Sadie Hawkins, and it was a girl ask guy dance as it usually was. There were plenty of people there and plenty of good music, but the big attraction of the night was the hitching post and say- ing of the vows to someone you cared for, or someone you liked, or someone you just met, or Slowing things down with something soft and moody Comon Ya’ll and dance! Pep Club cheers a Raven kick off The Pep Club was very enthusiastic and loud. Also they were very faithful to both the football and basketball teams of Maur Hill. They were full of energy and team support, and when the spirit was low they managed to put out loud cheers to let everyone know who they are and who they are for. Co-Chairmen Dianne Donavan and Patty Jacobs were always there away or at home to check on members and to see that all was well. The Pep Club beside all of their cheering is also involved in other activities such as the giving of food to less fortunate families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Pep Club is a prime example of the spirit which runs between the two schools and bind them together and we are proud to have a group belong like them. The Pep Club shows spirit for our basketballers. Dianne Donovan, Head of Pep Club The 76-77 Mount-Maur Hill band. The ’77 Mount-Maur Hill Band, now with 40 members, had another successful season.
