Fr. Barnabas is alumni director and is also in charge of the intramurals program. The students appreciate the fine work these three men do. It's a lot of work and it isn't easy, but they always seem to do their jobs superbly. Fr. Barnabas-Assistant Headmaster Mr. Stork-Dean of Academic Affairs BCMRD Of DIReCTOR1 Members: Michael P. Mr. and Mrs. William Smith lead dancers across Grand Ballroom floor. The League of St. Maur met at the Chicago Chapter last Sep- tember to celebrate the League's 10th anniversary. The league consists of dedicated people, who help keep Maur Hill existing. Over the last 10 years, they have collected over a million dollars for the cause of Maur Hill. At the Chicago chapter dinner-dance, Michael P. Murphy accepts commendation from Virginia Docking. The award is for his support of education in Kansas. Fr. Edwin and Mrs. Murphy look on. 9 GUIMNCe The guidance department at Maur Hill works hard to meet the needs of the students, and to help them in any way possible. Fr. Paul, Mr. Stork and Mr. Galley all ful- fill the students needs, when asked. As the saying goes, We all need a little help from our friends. Fr. Paul in a jovial mood. Well, What can I say? 10 The Art department has made some very definite changes also. With the moving of the art room to the old refectory , it offers a better chance for the students to create, and to create is what art really means. Brother Martin Father Luke 11 BU9IMC99 Mrs. Dutton and Sister Theresa took over typing this year. Fr. Anselm worked in St. Michael's cafeteria and was well appreciated by hungry maurites. Fr. Anselm wonders what creation we're eating today. 12 Mrs. Dutton-Takes care of business. RGLIGIOn The most important area of our life is our religion and Maur Hill tried to help everyone in this field. Fr. Paul was the Chaplain and religious education co- ordinator. With help from Bro. Jude, Fr. Owen, Fr. Luke and Fr. Barnabas, both the Mount and Maur Hill students were left with something this year. This was, that the most important thing in life is not to be afraid to be human. That much more, and I would have had a hole-in-one. (Fr. Paul) All Saints Day Mass. 13 GNGLI9H The english department again this year used the electives system. Mr. Ramsey, Dr. Wilmot, Fr. Thomas and Mr. Wells provided us with many classes of work and enjoyment. Students find this system more worthwhile and thoroughly not as boring as just basic English grammar study. Mr. Ramsey Mr. Wells-on the prowl. 15 Fr. Thomas prepares for takeoff. MNGUdGC Working in the language department with foreign students this year were Fr. Martin and Miss Palumbo. Teaching Latin was the Big O and teaching French was Fr. Bruce. Miss Palumbo—looks for an answer. The Big O 16 The math department at Maur Hill is one of the best anywhere. With Mr. Andra, Fr. Paul and Abbot Thomas taking charge, how can we go wrong? Mr. Andra taught the advanced courses and Fr. Paul and Abbot Thomas taught other levels of algebra. Did I really ask to be here? 17 science The science department consisted of some very able men. Teachers were: Mr. Andra-physics, Fr. Bruce-chem- istry, Mr. Stork-biology and Mr. Smith-biology and I.P.S. Somewhere it has been said that to wonder is to begin to understand. We wondered a lot in all of these classes but some of the understanding must of been lost some place else. Who ate their fetal pig? 18 Fr. Bruce meditates in class. Good try, Mitchell, but this slip isn't pink enough. Mr. Andra leaves his troubles behind him! 19 90CML9TUDI€9 Fr. Camillus-the look of distinction. Social Studies took on a new look this year with a few new teachers. Mr. O'Connor and Mr. Sweeney came and showed us new techniques and new ideas. Other teachers were Bro. Jude, Fr. Camillus and Fr. Barnabas. We'll end on this note today men!! 22 dDMINKTMTION Mr. Cooney relaxes in his office with his famous cigar. Sr. Paula pauses a moment at her desk. A Death and Dying Workshop and guest speakers highlighted the religion program this year. Retreats at St. Patrick were made available to students. Watch out. I'm gonna put on my crabby voice. (Sr Mary Agnes) Psst, Tim, write bigger so I can copy. (Mary Henry) . . . and so on ... and so on . . . and so on . . . (Sr. Helen) G1GLI9H Reading and writing and thinking are important in English classes. What you say and how you say it has literary merit. The English department, headed by Sr. Maria along with Miss Kathy Hurst and Sr. Helen meets most of the Mount students each day. Freshmen are instructed by Miss Hurst. Sophomores study under Sr. Helen who also teaches Seniors. Juniors learn about American writers in Literature class from Sr. Maria. Paperback books and movies round out the English curriculum. See Jane. See Jane run. (Miss Hurst) 27 But, Sister Maria, I DID my homework. Miss Menser and Crystal Coleman exchange opinions about World Culture. 90CML STUDieS A drop a day keeps the worries away. (Mrs. Wisely) It's all in the mind. (Sr. Mary Agnes) Social Studies Department led by Sr. Mary Agnes em- braces a range of subjects from History through Psychol- ogy to Sociology. Mr. Kalmbach also teaches Spanish I, II, and III and a new course in Spanish Culture, while Miss Hurst speaks French to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students. The French III class combin- ed with Maur Hill students this year. pmm i MdTH Lines, angles and x's are topics with which Sr. Sharon, Sr. Anne, and Sr. Maria challenge the mathematical minds of Mounties. Sr. Sharon, head of the Math De- partment teaches Algebra I and II and Geometry while Sr. Anne instructs an Elementary Algebra I class along with Geometry and Math Analysis. Another Algebra I class is instructed by Sr. Maria. A trip to Omaha for the annual Creighton Math Contest climaxes the year for the Math Department. How do you figure? (Sr. Maria) rcience Animals, plants, and insects occupy the time and energies of Sophomore biologists under the direction of Mr. William Weston. Both Biology and Physical Science are taught by Mr. Weston who is new to the Mount this year. Fieldtrips, rock and bug collections along with growing crystals have been part of the experience of science students. I wanna hold your hand ' What did one owl say to the other owl? (Mr. Weston) BUSINGS The Business department under the instruction of Miss Gerry Amrein and Sr. Rita Marie offers many classes to further the students' development. Miss Amrein teaches Typing 1, Business Typing and Office Practice (toSeniors only). Sr. Rita Marie has Short Hand. Business Math (which is offered every other year). Accounting, and EFL Typing. ✓ Miss Amrein demonstrates the art of removing fingers from the magic margin. My pencil is stuck. And the band goes marching on . . . MU9IC Sounds break forth from the music room as Mr. Dehner, head of Music Department, directs the chorus classes. The Mount-Maur Hill Music Department offers a variety of classes: band, stage band. Visions, chorus, mixed chorus, and private lessons. The goal of the Music Department is to develop musi- cians among the students rather than to entertain. Go blow your horn! Let me entertain you. Sr. Dismas, Merrily we float along. Miss Barrow gets totally excited about her Junior PE class. 'What's a nice girl like me, doing in a situation like this. (Miss Heine) PHYSICAL €DlOTIOri The Physical Education department headed by Miss Linda Barrow gained two new teachers this year, Sr. Dismas and Miss Barbara Heine. Sr. Dismas splash- es around with the girls in swimming class while Miss Heine teaches an EFL group and helps coach the jr. varsity teams. PCRSONMGL Patty Pickman helps Mrs. Elizabeth Brentano and Mrs. Esther Agnew on the assembly line. 37 9€IilOR9 Glance through previous yearbooks, and take a few moments to pause at the senior section. The graduating class is usually, if not always, described as truly one of the best ever, or a class which will be remembered forever. Here, in the senior section, the class of 75 won't be called the best ever. We can't say that our accomplishments at Maur Hill will be remembered always. The only things we can take with us are memories of times spent here. In years to come, we'll look back to our high school days and laugh at certain occurrences that happened. But like a certain wise man said, Remember the future, forget the past. For the future IS yours, the past WAS once yours. Not only in the classroom but also in social life. It's a time when a person can start wondering, (and maybe worrying) about times ahead. Juniors will be able to look back on this past year and see what they've accomplished. With all this great knowledge, their senior year no doubt can be looked forward to with eagerness. 54 Mike Earl Gary Enzbrenner Dan Glennon Andy Goetting Leon Henry Steve Hillenmeyer Charles Houghton Tom Huber Jeff Huck Dan Intfen Milton Jackson Jeff Jurcyk I don't really know about this Slough! JUNIOR' 59 How do you begin to describe the Junior class? Perhaps one can say it best in one word-----Togetherness. Two years ago as Freshmen, the Juniors made an adjustment to a new way of life and some of the best years of living were on the way. As Sophomores they worked to unite as one. Achieving this goal and grow- ing together with Maur Hill, they found each individual had something to give and something to share. This year as Juniors, they have continued to grow, to understand, to accept, and to strive for all that they have accomplished thus far. Being the largest class at the Mount, they have put forth many efforts into achieving a real meaning of the Spirit of '76. Together they have helped each other come to know one another. Together they are striving to see where they are going in their last and final year as one. It's a pressing matter! To be a sophomore at times can seem like the biggest hassle. Biology and geometry are only two bummers that this year presents. Soph year is a time of changes and with changes comes maturity. At Maur Hill this year, the frosh showed that this generalization of freshmen year is nonsense. They came pretty well prepared for the unexpected. They took all that the upperclassmen could dish out. From this, they truly are worthy of jumping into their soph year. With a very tough schedule and some key injuries, they were hurting at times, but still played tough enough to win. As Coach Galley stated, it can honestly be said that we've never been associated with a finer group of young men and a group that refused to back down no matter what the situation or adversity. 85 Steve Lackey breaks for the hole. 86 Coach Wells gives Klebba some advice Top picture: Dave Edge (the other linebacker) pursues a LeBlond running back.
