St. Joseph’s Priory, Mineiros, Brazil Perhaps more than any other student body, the '64-'65 Maurites met with the idea of total committment to their God and the consequent necessity for an active response on their part. The Second Vatican Council's stress for mission activity, the revitalized program in teaching religion here at Maur Hill, the Great Books Program, the renewed interest in the Liturgy, and the publicity, lectures, and slide shows on the recent foundation in Brazil by St. Benedict's Abbey contributed to this consciousness. Nevertheless, among Maur Hill alumni there are men now distinguishing themselves by their leadership and dedication in Mission Activity and the lay apostolate here and abroad. To all Maur Hill men, and especially those who are spending their lives to bring light, love, and purpose to humanity still crawling in poverty and darkness, and to all men and women dedicated to their fellow man, we respectfully dedicate the 1965 Maurite. Father Matthias Schmidt, O.S.B., Prior, still talks football, a sport he starred in at Maur Hill.
