Math teachers Father Eric, Mr. Andra, Father Gabriel, and Father Herman Math and Art Departments Father Gabriel and student in discussion A not so well-known author once compared Mathematics to Atlas, in that they both hold up the world. In order that Maurites may one day take their place in this pillar of strength the Maur Hill Mathematics department again offered a variety of courses. Fr. Herman and Fr. Eric held down the geom- etry classes while Fr. Gabriel and Mr. Andra taught Algebra. Fr. Herman was also the sole teacher in the Art department, which offered Art and Mechanical Drawing courses. 20

Pat Suddarth leads the discussion in a Junior religion class Religion Department F r. Kieran giving his weekly religion lecture to the Juniors. School year 64-'65 saw a new religion program at Maur Hill. Fr. Kieran, after spending much of his summer time planning and preparing, introduced the program this fall. Each class was split into five groups, according to ability. They spent two days a week discussing HI-TIME, a magazine writ- ten for religious instruction, and two days a week in study hall. The other day, the class spent as a group listening to a lecture by Fr. Kieran. As a whole, the student body thought the new program excelled the old one. Many stu- dents especially thought the small groups paved the way to learning. 19
