Sophomores learn their Latin. Fr. Martin teaches English to Spanish-speaking Maurltes. Music Department This year the Music Depart- ment again boasted an active Glee Club and Band. Fr. Camillus also again had a Beginning Band for those students who had never played an instrument before. With the rearranging of the class schedule because of the new religion program, Glee Club grew from athreeday-a-week study hall filler to a full time class. The Band lent life to pep rallies and basketball games this year, and also played in programs in collaboration with both Maur Hill and Mount Glee Clubs. Fr. Camillus squeezes blood, sweat, and tears from his Glee Club singers. 15

Father Martin lectures Freshman Latin class. Fr. Bruce reprimands Bob Regan for studying too hard. The Maur Hill Language Department offers Spanish, French and, of course, Latin. Father Martin teaches Spanish, Father Bruce teaches French, and the Latin instructors are Father Owen and Father Martin. The fully equipped language lab facilitates the efforts of these instructors. The language classes have cooperated in working out a schedule for the daily use of the lab. When the language lab first came into usage, Latin as is usual, was not taught as a spoken lan- guage and Latin classes didn't use the lab. But with an eye for progress, the Latin instructors began utilizing the lab in their classes. French instructor. Father Bruce. Department Father Owen Purcell and his Freshman Latin class. 14

Physical Ed. instructors Mr. Richard Andra, Jerry Brown, and Brother Jude Highberger Physical Education Department Maur Hill, new and up to date as it is, also takes ideas from men who lived long ago. For it was Plato who said that to im- prove a man's mind, start by making an athlete out of him. This is the aim of the Maur Hill Physical Education Department: to make athletes. And Mr. Andra, Mr. Brown and Brother Jude have found that moulding minds is much easier than moulding muscles and co-ordi- nation.
