Dedication This, our 1964 MAURITE, we dedicate to the memory of John F. Kennedy, who dedicated himself to us. We recall his concern for the education of the young American and his wish to keep students in school. We recall his program for physical fitness and the days of the fifty-mile hike. We recall his ideas on equality to all races and religions. We recall his firmness in dealing with Communist oppression. We recall his eloquent speeches, his Profiles in Courage, and his calmness and assurance in handling all the problems that faced him and us. We recall the hope of peace, which once hatched, began to flourish in his administration. We recall his love for America and his sense of justice. And we recall him as a man, a husband and a father, because he was all of these. He was, in fact, part of all of us — a member of our own families it seemed. John Kennedy was president less than three years. He accomplished much in that time and left many impressions, helping as many people as he was able. Because he was the man he was, he felt restricted and cramped by formalities and long periods of waiting. What he did though, would be commendable to any man. His deeds are an inspiration for us to contribute to our own, to work together as a team, to help one another. In the words of Saint Paul, Bear ye one another’s burdens. And in the words of John F. Kennedy, Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
