tchi on, Kama SJn Wlemo'uj. In memory of Jerry Schoenberger we, the Seniors of '57, humbly and sincerely dedicate this page. The whole school was shocked to hear of the untimely death of Jerry in an automobile accident January 29, 1956. Jerry was a very popular fellow among us. R. I.P. This book we dedicate to the monks of St. Benedict's Abbey; Atchison, Kansas. This year the monks have completed their 100th anniversary of preaching, teaching, and devoting their lives to God. The Bene- dictine monks began teaching at Maur Hill in 1927. dedication RT. REV. CUTHBERT MCDONALD, O.S.B., A. M. President of Maur Hill For the past four years Father Daniel has been the principal of Maur Hill. During these four years he has never tired nor rested in his attempt to make our stay at Maur Hill a success. To him we owe all that has helped to make our edu- cation complete. Besides performing the duties of prin- cipal, Father taught Latin 2 and 4. We will always remember you in our prayers. Father Daniel, for your helpful and guid- ing hand. God Bless you. Before becoming head coach at Maur Hill, Mr. Galley coach- ed a junior high school team at Victoria, Kansas. Uhe e the men. . . Father Wilfred Fangman completed his sixth year as athletic director of Maur Hill. To him is entrusted the task of sceduling all the games for the var- sity football, basketball, and baseball teams. They didn't ever throw in the towel until the final buzzer went off, though they were on the short end of the score half the time Coach Galley's charges were suffering from only one ailment, no experience. Thrills were plenty as the Ravens regard- less of their handicap plowed right into the thick of the game often showed their fight- ing spirit by coming through with an unex- pected victory. 53 INDIVIDUAL SCORING G FG FT TP Muff, Larry 21 144 78 366 Hickert, G. 21 56 41 153 Hopkins, G. 14 53 35 141 Konen, Matt 18 25 27 77 Paolucci, T. 18 12 21 45 Reeves, T. 17 14 17 45 Anderson, P. 16 11 22 44 McCarthy, J. 12 13 7 33 Zelfer, J. 15 6 13 25 Van Dyke, R. 12 5 6 16 Begley, J. 3 2 4 8 Davis, L. 2 1 2 4 Hudnall, M. 1 0 0 0 Totals 21 342 273 957 Larry Muff sinks one in the St. Agnes tilt Tony Paolucci racks up two points against Lafayette. Records continued to fall as Larry built up an average of 17.7 points per game. He became the second to sink more than 100 field goals in one season for Maur Hill. His 144 field goals and 78 free throws gave him a season record of 366 points breaking Tom McCarthy's record of 334 points set in 1954. One thing lacking in the B squad was coaching. Coach Galley couldn't spend much time with them and conse- quently they did not receive the necessary training. BN'S tv l x Activities Student Council Michael Gaughan Secretary-Treasurer After the campaign last May, the Student party emerged victorious. Edward Weishaar became president as Raphael Wendling and Michael Gaughan took over the offices of vice-president and secretary treasurer respectively. To these men fell the task of asking for that extra time in the Roost at world series time, taking laundry to the post office, and promoting mixers through- out the year. They never shirked their duty and did the fine job we expected of them. LEFT: AFTER THE CAMPAIGN in May. These are the boys who have distinguished themselves in school work. As in sports, so in studies, the seniors and juniors led the way with 10 and 14 representatives re- spectively, including eight straight A students, on the 42-man semes- ter list. For some, earning this position on the honor roll was easy, for others hard, but they have all earned the recognition. STRAIGHT A STUDENTS. THE TATLER Toward the end of each month the Tatler room became alive with the hum of typewriters as the editors began to write the stories of the reporters and to plan the layout of the next issue of the paper. Dave Rogers, the only member on the staff with any editorial experience, took over the job of editor-in-chief. Kenneth Hanlon served the post of news editor while Jim Nass filled the spot of feature editor. Fred Jehle acted as sports editor. THE OCTET, LEFT TO RIGHT: Jon Benedict, Ed Weishaar, Kenny Hanlon, Phil Kraus, Fred Jehle, Norman Birzer, Leonard Kraus, John Steichen. This has been the third year for Fr. Camillus as the head of the music depart- ment. He has a big job to do in molding a group of singers and musicians who are not exactly blessed with talent into a fine organization. However, we think that Fr. has done a wonderful job. THE BAND was composed mostly of underclassmen. They played for pep ral- lies and other assemblies during the year. THE GLEE CLUB also was composed largely of underclassmen. They sang at all presentations of the dramatics depart- ment. THE OCTET was formed from the more talented members of the Glee Club. They appeared along with the Glee Club at school assemblies and at the Mission Benefit. FR. CAMILLUS Twelve Angry Men , a three act play was presented to the student body and the Mount on the evening of November 13. Summer Comes to the Diamond O was the feature attraction of the Christmas program presented on December 10. The main feature of the Thespian year was the three act play entitled Career Angel , which was given on the evening of March 12. The main drawbacks of the dramatics were lack of space, money, and boys who had ex- perience in the art of acting. Fr. Wilfred was again head of this department. His big trouble was finding suitable plays for an all male cast. Everyone agrees that despite these handicaps the dramatics department had a very successful year. I'll kill you! roars Rempe during production of Twelve Angry Men. They are Robert Buscher: president, Larry Siebenmorgen: vice-president, Larry Muff: secretary-treasurer. Jack Burkart: sergeant- at-arms. The primary purpose of the M club is to promote a better understanding between the students and the faculty while the main aim is to encourage extracurricular activities. 74 J ntnamunal '• 1 T - ' ..■• Intramurals S' ,■, «• y xv - rw « „ k «c • « •«• r •;;:nrs — - - .. 1 6- tK '■ • • .
