“ CONCLUSION Then came the climax—the beginning of the 191 7-1 8 school year. This was the big deal, the year everyone was waiting for. Now they were at the top; the title was now B. f .O.fl.U.H.S.— Big Vheels of Vasco Union High School. Seniors at last!! As usual, some faces were missing from the ranks—Kenneth McKay, Alice Pedersen, Janis Cameron, and Betty Davis ( Vho had also capitulated to Matrimony her Junior year and is now Betty Morrow of Vamic.). One new member graced the class, Bob James from Franklin High of Portland. They chose Mrs. Mead to act as their advisor, and soon elected class officers. Fat McCulloch became president; Thatcher Shaw was vice-president; and Margaret Olsen, secretary-treasurer. Along with school work, they soon began the traditional senior class task of preparing and editing the Red-side, with Bill Walters editing and Bob James acting as business manager. Then, feeling that their successful work the previous year justified another venture into acting, they soon began work on a senior play, A Pair of Country Kids, which was presented in April. This was followed closely by another tradition. Skip Day. You know, the only chance in a lifetime to skip school legally. (At least they get away with it, by taking the teacher with them.) Next on the list of activities was Baccalaureate services, and then came the long-awaited day—commencement. Since Bob James had dropped out of school to join the Navy, there were just ten gowned and mortar-boarded seniors to cross the stage and receive the coveted sheepskin— Pat McCulloch, Margaret Olser Bill .Valters, Alden Walters, Thatcher Shaw, Dudley Cox, Florence Jones .Voodside, Don .Yaits, Vonna Morrow, and Helen Crabtree. And so ends our story of the Class of 191 8. Or, at least, so end3 our story of them as a class. The future chapters about our heros must be written by different authors—themselves.
