Till1 Faculty ★ The faculty of Maupin High School conducts the affairs of the school. Not only do they teach and direct classes but they give much time and thought to amusements and programs. Mr. Monger, our principal, oversees the business of the school. He teaches manual training, U. S. history and social economics. Miss Kaiser is our commercial teacher. She presides over typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, law and physical education classes. She is adviser of the Maupin Hi-Life, our school paper. Mr. Crawford is the coach. He teaches science and mathematics. His teams have been very successful this year due to his excellent supervision. Mrs. Monger teaches English, speech and music. She was chosen as Senior class adviser. Many successful plays have been presented under her careful guidance. Miss Sprague conducts classes in home economics, world history, English and world geography. She is head librarian with several girls working under her. Her work in the library is greatly appreciated. We, the seniors, wish to thank this faculty for the consideration and kind attention they have always shown to us. Omer J. Calendar Student Officers ★ The first Student Body meeting that we have in record was organized during the school year of September 17, 1923 to May 1924. This meeting was called to order for the purpose of electing the Student Body Officers for the term. The following v ere the elected officers: Fred Miller, President; Kenneth Batty, Vice-President; Jean Wilson, Secretary; Lewis Batty, Treasurer; Lorraine Stovall, Editor; and Vivien Eubanks, Assistant Editor. Every year since then there has been an organized student Body at the Maupin High School. The officers for the year of 1939 and 1940 are: Gayle Mayhew, President; Don Stogsdill, Vice-President; Jeanne Mayhew, Secretary; Mae Greene, Treasurer and Brenton Driver, Sergeant-at-Arms. All of the officers this year were Seniors except Brenton Driver, who is a Junior. Publicity managers are two Sophomore girls. The Maupin High School Student Body is and has been, since it was first organized, of major importance to the school. The Student Eody tickets may be purchased at $1.50. A ticket entitles a student to participate in athletics and various activities of the School. September 17, Initiation of the green freshmen. September 26. Mr. Hunsacker presented a talk to the Student Body on the United States maintaining peace with other countries. September 29, Mr. Roleand Van Gavel, a Dutch Humorist. October 20, Maupin High School annual carnival. October 31, Glee club Hallowe'en party. November TO, Maupin High School rally ana party. December 2, The basketball jamboree, at The Dalles. December 15, Speech class presented the play, “The Green Light . December 21, Annual grade school and high school program, Christmas. December 22, Girls' league sponsored the annual Christmas party. January 2, The football boys were awarded then-letters. February 2, Speech class presented Jacob Comes Home, in The Dalles' one act play contest. February 16 and 17, County basketball tournament in the Maupin gym. February 23 and 24, Sub-district basketball tournament at the Dufur gym. February 29 and March 1 and 2, District basketball tournament at Arlington. March 3, Speech class presented one act plays. March 2C, Track team goes to Hill Military relays. May 12, Baccalaureate services.
