SOvreowe: wai AN be One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; and the earth abideth for ever. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he ariseth. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits. All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place where the rivers go, thither they go again. CoN THE BUS | was the last passenger of the day, | was alone on the bus, | was glad they were spending all that money just getting me up Eighth Avenue. Driver | shouted, it’s you and me tonight, let’s run away from this big city to a smaller city more suitable to the heart, let’s drive past the swimming pools of Miami Beach, you in the driver’s seat, me several seats back, but in the racial cities we'll change places so as to show how well you’ve done up North, and let us find ourselves some tiny American fishing village in unknown Florida and park right on the edge of the sand, metallic, painted solitary, with New York plates. — Lean and Cohen waa ( as | was walking along the streets of Washington D.C.; | spotted a group of emanci- pated Negroes standing on the corner. a ‘‘| was a Carnation baby, and baby look at me now’’) In the process of looking so hard; | almost tripped over their chains. Nikki Giovanni Go onward young man, for the road is long and rocky; in your travels, remember that the route you take will always be your own decision; don’t become prey to others’ advice, for in much of it ulterior motives are lurking under the disguise of infallible knowledge and sincere concern; even though some advise is truly sincere, only you know what is best for you; if you see one of your brothers walking a fine, smooth road, while yours is rocky and rough, do not become bitter and envious because there are always going to be those with an easier way to go than you; so instead of admitting defeat, summon the strength to keep on, for sooner or later your road also will become smooth, and then on that day your satisfaction will be supreme; even though you can't afford too many detours in your road to success, don’t be afraid to lend a helping hand to a brother lost or stranded along the roadside, for one day you too might be in the same position; don't ever make a habit of using people, because it will only lead to a bad end; and speaking of ends, don’t let death make you afraid of life, for living is an end in itself and death is a new beginning. Enough said. Time is passing and the journey is long. Go forth. Ben Blakney Ye a cena ee )) MAUMEE SCHOOL | came to MV in 1964 as a third grader. You helped me become what! am, and, whether or not you are around in the future, | am sure you will continue to help me. | just hope that, sometime in the future, you will remember all of the good times. Remember all of these good times we had and the good friends we were, for when all of these things are gone, they are never really lost, are they? With the help of my friends and classmates, | entered MV as a young boy, and | am leaving as ayoung man. Hopefully | will see you again sometime, and | will be able to thank you again. Omar Khayyam When | am able to distinguish between an aquaintance and a friend, my life is much simpler. A friend is one whom you can bitch and moan at, yet still love. Weakness is not all it appears to be. A strong man is one who can reconcile himself to his own conscience in the face of adversity. A weak man is one who chooses not to reconcile his conscience, but rather allows another to do it for him. To derive, and then to cultivate aesthetical pleasures is the beginning of a meaningful and peaceful life.
