To the highly esteemed members of the faculty who have spent many sleepless nights during this school year, fearing our failure to make the landing, we leave a promise that we will achieve more success in the next four years than we have in the past four. To the Juniors, with our deepest sympathy, we leave all our unlearned grammar lessons and do hope that they learn them. To the entire student body we leave our power (wielded by carrying flashlights) to get the lights turned on in the upper hall. To Mrs. Leach, our sponsor, we leave our gratitude in payment for the hard work on our play, the carnival, graduation exercises, and most of all for the interest she has shown in helping us graduate. Because of our sympathy for our fellow students, the members of our class wish to depart with the following talents in hopes that our fellow students will remember us in the years to come: I, Bill Allen, leave my ability as TV technician to Richard Lowe. I, a graduate of the 1954 Maud High School Senior Class, had just re- turned to the little old home town, and wanted to catch up on the whereabouts of the other grads. Hurrying through the main entrance of the Circus, I noticed a small tent to the right bearing the sign Your Fortune Read For $1.00. ” I thought for a moment and came to the de- cision that this would be a fine spot to find out all about my classmates. This is what I heard from the fortune teller: Mary Lou Wilcox, who was always noted for her driving, is now a famous motorcycle driver called The Daredevil. Her most famous trick is eight backward flips over David's house. Jerry Rankin finally got her beauty operator's license. She is now an operator for Bald Men, Incorporated. She dresses rabbits and chickens for Bohannon's Super Market as a side line. Jimmie Nell Hester always goes around saying, Mamma loves me, that I know; but Poppa says he fears some day, with some mean scamp I’ll not mn away. Charles Henry, a promising young lawyer, recently tried three cases—Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, and Grape. His famous court cry is, A bottle a day keeps the Zu Zu Bugs away. Believe it or not, the girl patrolling Broadway with the big gun is Laura Lindsay. She is now a big game hunter—two-legged game, that is. Janet Robertson, recently deceased, left her fortune to the foundation for Homeless Cats. See the woman in the cute uniform? That is Sue Pate. She and Bob are now rearing their own Army Division. Rex Wilson, a famous auto mechanic, offers a special rate on auto tune-ups. He never has any complaints about his work. His customers aren't able to complain—the bill he sends them makes them speechless. Charles Villines, following in the footsteps of Mr. McCharen, is now teaching Biology and Science. In his spare time he is experimenting with the goodness gland of a goat. William Tatum is a big game hunter and has hunted gophers on Salt Creek, oppossoms in Bruno Flats and is now hunting for his thirteenth wife. Merle Jay Harris must have realized part of his life long ambition. He has always wanted to be a dog sled driver--last night he came home from a date saying, Mush! Dale Liles, who recently starred in a hit western serial entitled, On The Trail, is now re- covering from over exposure to the cameras. He was on the trail six years. Rosemary Bohannon is now the head of a famous swim team. Her specialty is doing the high dive from a diving board one hundred feet high into a pool filled with buttermilk. Buddy Sims is realizing his ambition to have his own football team. He is naming the team The Asher Eleven and he is hoping to win the Dust Bowl. Joe Campbell, an excellent aeronuttical engineer, was testing the super-hidrogriper dumosidro- plane when a wasp lit on him. The super-hidrogriper dumosidroplane works, but Joe doesn't anymore. Darla Jean Ellis is proprietor of a sandwich shop on West Main. Her specialty is a triple-deck bread-and-butter sandwich. Frances Mann finally reached the height of her ambition. At the age of 93, she is a nurse in The Home For Aged Men. Bettie Hart Sanders, recently married, is the proprietor of Diapers, Inc. Her motto is Two hundred diapers a day keep the odor away. Bill Lankford, the head of United Travel Agency, is now offering cut rates to Punkin Center, and has recently issued a pamphlet on short cuts to Arkansas. Congratulations to Mary Caudill on the opening of her nursery for children from six weeks to six years. She has eleven pupils now, but no paying customers--they are all hers. Nellie Willbourn has graduated from four business colleges, and has finally settled down to a steady job--cigarette girl in Myrt's Cafe. Doris Skinner, whose marriage was planned for her when she was in the third grade, finally re- belled. She ran away from home and married a wild savage from the Belgium Congo. Van Guinn, one of Seminole Junior College's most promising young students, has finally re- ceived his degree. He has a Doctor's Degree and a BRAIN. Ted Thorn, who has received his farming degree from A M, has closed his mule barn and gone into the glue and fertilizer business. Dorothy and Florence are partners on a farm down in Texas. The farm is ten miles long and a half inch wide. They raise spaghetti. Shirley Palmer failed to make the grade with the famous Red Heads ball team. She dyed her hair with cake coloring—now she plays for the Bald Heads. That bashful little girl in English class by the name of Frances Hopper, is now campaign man- ager for the Make Maud Beautiful drive. Corkey Birdsell still thinks married life and her husband are wonderful, just wonderful! ” She Arliss, and Arliss Jr. are very happy. Bill Allen was.recently awarded a medal of honor for service above and beyond the clouds. He swore that he wouldn't come down until they disbanded the Marines. With this last bit of news, the light in the fortune teller’s crystal ball went out. I paid my dollar, thanked her, and went on my way rejoicing that 1 had once been a member of such an illustrious group. The team went to the finals by means of their winning over Wanette (42-34), and Harrah (29-28). The finals found the girls playing Noble. Noble won the game by a score of 36 to 21. The team captain, Laura Lindsay, received the runner-up trophy from Mr. John Snider, Superintendent of Maud Schools. The County Tournament, held at Shawnee during the last week of January, found Maud winning over Wanette (44-34), Bethel (44-38), and playing Macomb in the semi-finals. The girls play- ed very well in this game, but the final buzzer found the score 34-32 in Macomb’s favor. Mary Caudill, guard, made the All County Team as a result of her fine playing in this tournament. There are four senior girls on the A team—Laura Lindsay, Shirley Palmer, Mary Caudill, and Dorothy Palmer. These girls will be missed of course, but there are some fine understudies to take their places. The Maud B Team entered the County Tournament held at Bethel the first week in February. They won their first game against Earlsboro 44 to 22. Their second game with Asher was for- feited. The semi-final game with Dale was won by 30 to 20. They played Harjo in the finals and won by the score 43-42. Needless to say, the team composed of Donna Self, Jackie Swarb, Carolyn Young, DeLoyce Lovelace, Florence Palmer, Ellen Lovelace, Johniece Noland, La- vonna Ragan, Barbara Hutton and Jackie Sue Goss were very proud of their trophy.
