Student ( auncct ■ ................................................................. Students 1953 As a man thinketh in his heart so is he My aim and purpose while here has not been to train some for leadership, some as followers, nor to follow a strict routine of democracy; it has been to train for leadership and service for all as ability and occasion permitted, toward a broad functional belief and practice of democracy instead of a limited, formal concept. The completion of this annual by the Student Council I think, is as good an example of what I mean as I could find. The entire student body has co-operated with us in a democratic way to make this year’s annual a successful venture. I wish to congratulate you each and every one and to thank you not only for your work, help and co-operation on this one project; but for your many contributions in making our school a successful school during my tenure at Maud. I extend to each and every one of you my best wishes and my prayers are that you will live happy, wholesome, and useful lives. Yours truly Albert V. 'lofzJtecy As I glanced at the shelves in the city library, my eye was attracted by a thin, red leather volume. Taking it down, I saw the title was Who's Who and Why In Maud. Eagerly I turned the pages and read the preface. I'll omit the dates of birth and names of the relatives to save space. I regret that Paul Mason, our old classmate, died recently at the age of 99, while experimenting in the interest of science. His thirty gallon copper still blew up in his cellar, killing him, his wife and seventeen children and grandchildren. Carmen Cottingham is the world's swimming and diving champion. Her hobby is doing the swan dive from a hundred foot ladder into a pool without water. She also teaches at a fish school and keeps a seal farm on the coast of Alaska. Fay Hughes is president of the Tom Thumb Telephone Company. She is known for never giving the right number and never missing a conversation. Her favorite saying is, Number, please. Otis Ragan is now head bookkeeper in the combined grocery store and filling station at Punkin Center. His success is spurred on by his beautiful wife, Jackie Sue, who was bom crazy and re- cently had a relapse. DeLana Tiffin is noted for her lavish and charming hospitality to visiting celebrities. She recently entertained the celebrated assistant to the secretary's secretary of Lower Slobovia and Tarzan. She is an active member of the Daughters of the Dirty Dozen. I was very disappointed to hear of Joe Lawson's failure to major in dog catching at Blue Heaven University. He was kicked out and black-listed from all colleges for being caught putting fleas in the girls’ dormitory at two in the morning. Phyllis Horn is a radio comedienne and every night over Station NUT she gives the correct version of Goldie Locks and the Peroxide bottle. Jack Johnston is a famous movie producer. His best known films are The Canterbury Tales and The Private Life Of An Australian Porcupine. His hobby is making money and crocheting bathmats. William Vance is a professional ballet dancer who has been married and divorced three times. The grace and original dance technique for which he is noted was acquired while vacationing with a head- hunter in the Belgium Congo. Freddy Martin recently did a great service to humanity. He was selected from a group of three morons to go over Niagara Falls in a pop box. The test was a great success--the pop box came through without a scratch. Several friends and relatives gathered the next morning to hear the last rites of Freddy Martin. Pee Wee Hutton is an orchestra leader and composer of distinction. He plays an electric sweet potato in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He recently composed the music score to the famous picture success. Durango's Peril. Richard Norman has an onion farm down in Texas. He recently won first prize at the World's Fair for me largest onion in the world. His hobby is working in his fertilizer plant and beating his wife. His motto is, Odorless but Effective. Mariaiene Cantrell is a famous war heroine. While serving as a nurse, she became famous for carrying three men and a jeep across the Rhine River while being chased by a Communist tank. Pesty Reed is a famous modem artist. He studied in Siberia, painted in Russia, and won a $2 prize in an insane asylum. Two of his most recent paintings are The Idiot’s Grandchild and Marialana's Retreat. Bill Barton became a famous poet, but soon after writing Ode To A Cancerous Face, ” his career was cut short. He was sentenced to death for the murder of his ninth wife, the heroine of his poem, The Cross Eyed Hag of Dover. ” We see that Bertie Harrison, whose screen name is Bromillia Bromide, has finally made the movies. She is currently seen in the great action picture, Dry Gulch starring Allan Rocky” Lane. Her speaking part consists of Help! The Indians are coming! Harold Gober spent six years learning to be a train engineer. He now runs the kiddy train at Spring Lake. Rogean Bankston has quit college, much to my disappointment, but she finally found out that a Bachelor's Degree does not mean an unmarried man. Joan Shawver is now proprietor of the Cold Feet Funeral Parlor in Blue Heaven. She is still looking for a husband. She says he doesn't have to be rich, good looking, young or too intelligent; but it would be nice if he could breathe a little. Dave R. Tiny Morris is a great hit nowdays. He finally made the grade as a football player. His prison plays McAlester next winter. He is serving time for trying to sell his mother-in-law to a museum as an antique. Bob Hanks had an accident that ruined his career. He was well on his way to a new world s record in flag pole sitting when he' stood up to wave at a blonde. Glendon Garner and his wile have broken up. In her divorce suit she stated that Glendon sent an undertaker to visit her and had funeral wreaths placed in her room when she was ill. Omega Williams Hawkins has realized her life's ambition at last. She is a bubble dancer in the Dirty Dungeon in Wolf. However, since she tried to perform in church, she is now waiting for someone to bail her out of jail.
