tiger Published by the Students of MAUD HIGH SCHOOL Maud, Oklahoma We, the staff, believe it is fitting that the 1952 TIGER be dedicated to the Student Council, an organization just getting under way this year. The Student Council was organized under the guidance of Mr. Horn. In October, each class in Junior High and Senior High School and each organization selected a representative for the con- stitutional convention. These representatives were very faithful in their work. They spent much of their spare time studying sample constitutions of other councils and writing the constitution for our school. These representatives were: Janette Acree, Stanley Acree, Viola Baker, Jimmy Barnes, Betty Lou Collins, Wilbur Glasgow. Frankie Snelson, and Ted Thorn. In January, the representatives presented the completed constitution of the Student Council to the student body for their approval. The student body accepted the constitution by an overwhelming majority. After the acceptance of the constitution, each Senior High class elected two senators, each Junior High class and organization elected one senator for the Council. JamesDeLonais was elected President of the Student Council. The election of the other officers is not complete as yet. Members of this, the first, Student Council are : Jimmy Barnes, Johnita Barnet, Charles Biggs. Warren Bodkin, Rosemary Bohannon. James Delonais. Marian Franklin, Wilbur Glasgow. Merle Harris, Joe Lawson. Sue Noland, Laverne Palmer, Darrell Raper, Frankie Snelson, Jimmy Sublett, Charles Villines, and Sue Warren. We, as members of the student body, expect many good things from the Student Council and be- lieve the Council will bring about a more united student body, one that will accomplish things. I began thinking of the beginning of the educational period of my life. Way back in 1940, my mother washed my face, dressed me neatly, combed my hair and led me to my first day in Central Ward School. The first six years are a little hazy because time passed swiftly and friends came and went. I do remember, however, little things such as knocking my best boy and girl friend down to show htetn I liked to friend down to show them I liked them, standing in line for a drink at the fountain, picking paper off the floor around my desk, pulling my friend's hair affectionately, standing in the corner for punishment, and trips to the office. During these formative periods in my life I had good leaders. As I remember, Mrs. Shell ushered me through the first, Mrs. Holley the second. Mrs. Main the third. Mrs. Zeverley led me through the fourth, Mrs. Burton the fifth, and Mr. Christian the sixth. Then a great change took place in my life- -I changed from the Central Ward School to the High School. Goodness! but the building seemed large and the halls seemed to swallow me. I braved all this through the seventh with Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Thorn as sponsors. The eighth was a little better because I was getting used to the customs. Mrs. Harris was the sponsor who helped us through the gate into high school. The Green Freshman period of my life was marked with new friendships being formed. Kenneth Gober, Donald Peters, Jimmy Sublett, Clinton Palmer. La verne Palmer, and Betty Rose Jones joined our band this year. Our sponsor was Miss Pittsenbargar. The tenth was my hesitant year. It was at this time that James McCraw joined our group while others dropped out. Some of the girls served at the Junior - Senior banquet. Our sponsor was Mr. Forrest. The Junior year was the big one. I was suddenly in the midst of working at the Junior stand during foot- ball and basketball games, being in the Junior play and helping with the Junior - Senior banquet. All of these activities kept me, as well as the others in the class, quite busy. Our play, Look Me In The Eye.” was real work for our sponsors, Mr. Rhoades and Mrs. Snell, but the result of a good play was worth the effort put forth by everyone. The banquet theme was Heavenly Bodies and was indeed very beautiful. Charles Wheat, Johnita Barnes, Jimmy Sublett and Marian Franklin made speeches. The Senior year was one of doing things- -selecting class rings and announcements, having pictures made, renting caps and gowns, planning the Senior play and trip, and looking forward to graduation. I, as well as the others, began thinking of what would take place after graduation in May. Some of the students planned to go to college, some to business school while others were going to work. Mr. Martin and Mr. Rhoades were the sponsors. Some have come and some have gone, but seven of us traveled through the twelve years of educational life together in the Maud Public Schools. These are Warren Earl Bodkin, Janette Acree. Billy Jim Collins , Sandra Eidson, Chumley Waldrop, Johnita Barnes, and Franklin Gregory. We do hereby constitute and appoint Mr. Horn, Mr. McCharen and Mr. Henry as sole executors of this our last will and testament. THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1952 As I glanced at the shelves In the city library, my eye was attracted by a thin red volume. Taking itdown, I saw the title was Who's Who and Why in Maud. Eagerly I turned the pages and read the pre- face. I'll omit the dates of birth and names of the relatives to save space. WILBUR GLASGOW, a famous inventor, has really blessed humanity with his Restwell Mattress for oysters and exercises for reducing one's income taxes. KENNETH GOBERhas his own taxi service and it's the most famous one known. He has only lady taxi drivers. FRANKLIN GREGORY, better known as Bashtul Babe, is now giving courses in love making in his own studio. LILLY FERN HEFFLEY is running a home for Old Maids and some of her star boarders are Seniors of '52. CURLEY HOLT, who was once a famous hunter, is now gun shy and spends most of his time figuring out new designs for marbles. JUNE PRICE is the owner of a Weekly Lonely Hearts Club. She guarantees results—a lonely heart. SHERRY LACEY is now an instructor in an auctioneering school. She talks all day. CHUMLEY WALDROP is teaching ballet to football boys. He says it helps them to fall gracefully. MARIAN FRANKLIN is married to a sailor and they have their own houseboat on the South Canadian River. Drop out to see them. EVA SANDERS is a milliner whose shop is the lastest word in style and beauty. She is treasurer in charge of the hatpins of the High Hat Society. CLAUDE BOHANNON has a coaching job at the University of Oklahoma. His football team hasn’t won a game yet. BILLY JIM COLLINStis running for senator this year. His loving wife, MARY JANE, pushes him on the platform to make his speeches. SANDRA EIDSON owns her own little public library. The only trouble is she would rather get ac- quainted with boys than books. JOHNNY ELWELL has been governor of the state and leader of a progressive party. His motto is All for one and that one is me. LA WANDA FINNEGAN is happy at last. She is now divorcing her fourth husband in order to marry the fifth one. BETTY JONES, who was always interested in basketball, has her own team now. She is the mother of six girls. JAMES McCRAW now owns his own used car lot. This is a step up because he was selling bicycles this time last year. CLINTON and LA VERNE PALMER have a brother - sister act in a carnival. We now believe in miracles because they are listed as Siamese Twins. DONALD PETERS is another visitor at Norman. His habit of winking at the girls turned out worse than we expected. ARLEY POPE is now a great writer. His lastest novel was How To Be a Service Station Anendam. DOROTHY ASKEY is now in China working as a foreign missionary. She seems happy. JOHNTTA BARNES, who's great desire was to wear a white uniform, has at last fulfilled her dreams. Norman's institution issues them to all patients. WARREN BODKIN is the famous crooner at the Top Club, which is now owned by JIMMY SUBLETT. Both boys are successful in their business. NORMA CARR is now the world's most popular bubble dancer. She is with Ringling Brothers Circus. FLORINE McKINNEY. who looked like our most promising Senior, is leaving her family on their own as she is going to devote all her time to playing softball. JANETTE ACREE is a speedy character these days. She is operating a jet plane service from Maud to Pluto and Mars. JOE COOPER is a big business man. He says business is booming and to prove his point be is opening a green cheese factory on the Moon this month.
