PROGRESS I9 MAIN CONCERN OF ADMINIQTRATIOI MR. F. E. COOLEY. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Floyd Estes Cooley, a 1924 graduate of Texas High School, in Texarkana, went on to achieve his Bachelor of Arts Degree at East Texas State University and his Master of Arts Degree at the University of Texas. Mr. Cooley's career at Maud began in 1926. ln 1928, he became Superintendent of MHS. Coaching was one of his duties as he directed the Cardinal team from 1926 until 1940. In December of 1941, he entered military service as a radar instruc- tor and served until November, 1945. Mr. Cooley then returned to Maud. During the time that he has served in the Maud School System, he has achieved many honors. He has served as president of the Bowie County Unit, T. S. T. A. and presi- dent of the local Lion's Club. Mr. Cooley has been awarded the Outstand- ing Citizenship Award three times, once by the VFW in 1956 and twice by the Maud Lion's Club in 1956 and in 1958. He was the Director both of the Maud Housing Authority and of the Maud Community Welfare. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Office of Economic Opportunity and an honorary member of the State Future Homemakers of America. Mr. Cooley has served the community for 46 years. He has always displayed a keen Though the school has been his pet project interest in its development and in its peop 1 o to him a progressive community and a go d school were complementary: so to both he has devoted hours of unflagging time and energy. With the end of the 1972 school year, Mr. Cooley will complete his many years of administrative service. He will leave wi the community a rich heritage of a proud school. Though he relinquishes the reins of school administration, the community itself will never relinquish Mr. Cooley. th 16.
