Introducing the President of our unsurpassable class . . . Bob Allen. May we pause to inflict this bit of knowledge into thy so-called brain? Bob,' means bright in fame. That's our boy! Treasurer of the Class of '46 in its Junior year, Bob was well qualified to take over for the last Qsobj mile. Bob Fitt has taken the honors for Vice-President. fVice-President-ewords meaning, Oh, I hate messy things like that-let FITT do it.j Outstanding in any sportsman's language, possess- ing the qualities of honest rivalry and a graceful acceptance of results, BESIDES being tall, dark, and handsome-well, I ask you, what can we do but sigh and say, Yes, Bob, to our Vice-President's merest whim? Now meet our vote for the Girl We Would Most Like to Trade Places With -our class Secretary, Helen Slick', Matheney. And who wouldn't, as we watch her gaily cavort among the male officers of the class, President of the G. A. A., and, in reality, the power behind the throne of many school parties and other such doings, Slick is known for her cheerful, good- natured disposition. VVith her ready wit, Slick has the qualities that make for Success in a big wafy. Last, but far from least, we have Dick I-Ieaclly, the man with our money. He of the Skinny- winnie, hydie-hi fame can always be counted on for that last-minute pep meeting, after all others mildly refuse the job. Dick is another Hman with experiencef' having been Vice-President of his class in its junior year, and continuing as a wonderful Treasurer this year. With such bright and sparkling Personalities to guide us-we just can't help being so SIMPLY divine!! Page Six El 'G ENE ALEXANDER-R. O. C. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Yepawc think it's odd, too. But can we help it if the SPSQAXVH Society for the l'reservation and Sustaining of the Old Art of Women Hatingj had a majority??? hat our own President Maybe wc should warn all you Dead-Eye Dicks t is a Dead-liyc llon with a rifle. This useful ability, combined with just the right amount of intelligence and personality, makes a Forceful Fella-just the thing for the top man of our Superior Junior Class. Then there's Bill, who really knows his football. Andy also shares honors with Reg Tate as the original pivot man of our Famous Basketball Team. But is that all???-you ask. Nope! Don s right hand man finds time to star in track. too. XYhat more could we want? We can almost stage a repeat performance of l3ill's activities when we talk about Paul Cisna. Paul prefers football to track and basketball, though, and is one of the bright and shining hopes for our team-to-be. Our Bright-Eyed Boy of the Basketball Bunch, Mr. Ecoppi, is a lovable sort of character with a ready grin and SUCH a pleasing manner. We are inspired to do great things--iff only Joe would wink back l ll VVith such GORGEOUS Officers-'it's a wonderful class!!! BA After three years of long, hard work. the band has increased its number to forty members, with prospects of becoming even larger within the next year or two. During the present school year the band has engaged itself in many activities. In January a concert was held at the City Hall Auditorium. This was so successful a venture that several repetitions are being planned for next year. On March 2 the various members, who had been diligently rehearsing for over two months, went to the Band Contest held at Charleston. The results of two months of effort were exceedingly gratifying, as witnessed by our ratings: First division, Vincent VVorland, French horn, Toni Ferree, sousaphone. Second division, Drum Ensembleg Shirley Lacy, baton twirler. Third division, Lois Spriggs, clarinet, Jane Hesler, flute, Vivian Upton, b V. A , . . . ., , . aton tyyirlcr. fourth division, Louise Vt altrip, Cornet. Besides these oustanding performances, the band played at all the football and basketball games. This organization, with Danny' Ferree as Captain Dale Brown as Lieutenant, and Bob Rexer as Sergeant, and under the guidance of Mr. Shimp, is to be sincerely congratulated for its fine work in the past, and assured of our best wishes for an equally successful future. COUNCIL Thanks to the efforts of last yea1 s cadets, Mattoon High School could boast an Honor Unit at the start of the school year 45- 46. Now we are ' ' ' ' M. ' lut ever cadet :train faced with the old evil of Federal Inspection in f ay, u y Es will do his lmest for that pretty red star to brighten up the olive drab. The most outstanding event in our R. O, T. C. year was the annual hall ' it eni- held in llccemlxcr. For the first time in the history of Mattoon s uni , in l f tl fair sex were chosen as honorary captains. From these girls. ici s o ie selected by the cadets, the R. O. 'l'. C. Council chose Miss Shirley Churchman as our honorary lieutenant-colonel. Needless to say, our hall was THE social event of the school year. Although the members of our Rifle team haven't had too much practice ' rs time, they have managed to maintain an outstanding record during partlcl- pation in several matches throughout the year. . At this time we, the cadets, wish to thank Sergeant Cohen, who is leav- ing us after four years of service, for his untiring efforts in teachingv us the first steps toward becoming a soldier.
