We Dedicate This RIDDLE 0151945 To Victory and Peace One year . . . and one step nearer ultimate victory and a long-awaited day of peaee . . . a day from which we shall guide our steps, in a hope that there will never more be a need to pray for victory in war. Peace, to the men in our Armed Forces, means freedom . . . freedom from a muddy foxhole that had to be home for three days and two nights, from won- dering where the next screaming shell would hit, from slow boats and slower trains, and from a plane that went too fast . . . freedom from all these things, and the oth-er thousand and one tortures that compose the tiny word war, To our parents, peace will bring relief from count- less hours of worry and fear . . , relief from the numh- ness that shot through them at the words, This is lVestern Union. Peace will luring happiness with the knowledge that their loved ones are once -more . . . safe. But to us, the generation that was too young for war, lies the task of defending our peace as vigor- ously and strongly as our friends and brothers defended their country in its time of need. VVe are determined to keep that peace, not only for ourselves, but for later generations, so that, in time, war will be forgotten . . leaving only a rightful heritage , . . Peace!
