Tha(Q(c Cjod UJCAX o kJUJL friuen umlk Suo_(Le££ lJJ{y y e c? )OV Dedication Characterized by a warm and genuine smile, he can often be found well after three, in his room, helping students or correcting exams. Since his arrival at Mattituck High School just seven years ago, has stood out as an example of what teaching can be. His methods and his manners are simple, direct and effective. He usually accomplishes more in one day than some do in a week, because every lesson is carefully thought out, every contingency is planned for. He maintains a forward, definite motion in his teaching, and can (sometimes) make even involved calculus interesting. But he is by no means a merciless taskmaster. His concern and his respect for his students are qualities appreciated and reciprocated by others, including his peers. Even with the new burden of early-morning feedings, he has remained capable and fresh each day, perplexing students as to how anyone could be so awake at eight o’clock in the morning. His enthusiasm for his alma mater is evidenced by his involvement with both the home and traveling Mathlete teams, and by his participation on numerous faculty committees over the years. He has pushed us often beyond what we believed were our capabilties and has shown us what we really can do. He has not been a teacher as much as he has been someone to learn from. And so we, the class of 1987, with continuing respect and appreciation dedicate the 1987 Relector to Mr. Dennis Deerkoski. P.S. This is how Suzanne saw herself. “I’m the kind of person that someone can rely and depend on. I have grown up to be a pretty good person. I like myself and who I am. Other people usually say that school is a bore, but I love school. My grades aren’t the greatest, but I believe that there is more to school than just grades. I love to be around people and I’m very outgoing. I love people, school and life! I believe that you can only do what you can do!!” din. 33 I Ml1 .ngelo Variety Show 1,2 by 1.%: ft: Harvey Bagshaw Travel Club 1; HUGS 3; Expression 1, 2, 3, 4; Year- book 1, 2, 3, 4; Variety Show 1, 2, 3, 4; Senior Play 1,2, 3,4; Substance A Ruse 3; Chorus 1, 2, 3, 4; Band 1, 2, 3, 4; Mock TVial 4; Honor Society 3, 4; French Club 1, 2; Ding-a-Ling Week 1, 2, 3, 4; Crop Walk 1, 2, 3, 4; Cross Country V 1, 2 Erika Ackerinann HUGS 3; Student Council 3: Variety Show 1, 3,4; Senior Play 1, 3, 4; Substance Abuse 3, 4: Chorus 1. 2 3. 4: Band 1, 2; Honor Society 3.4: German Club 1.2; Health -.Club 3, 4; Crop Walk 2, 3; Run for HUGS 3; Tennis V 3 4; CfceeringJ.’ I Basketball J.V. 2. Mr. Verity directed this musical pro- duction, using intricate choreogra- phy to highlight the musical num- bers in the show. John Brooks played the title part of Pippin with Heather Freeman por- traying his leading lady. David Tuthill, as the king, sung his way into battle and our hearts. Lee Steidel as the scheming stepmother favored her son, played by Jim Krupski. Through it all George Grattan guided Pippin and the audience to the “grand finale.” 90 $ Not to be outdone by the ‘leads’ the chorus donned clown faces and various cos- tumes, such as the battle- worn armour. All the cast members, lighting techni- cians, stage crew and advi- sors proved that they did in- deed have “Magic To Do”.
