Mattituck High School Mattituck, New York Education — Freedom REFLECTOR 1972 c , • Dedication “Gauge not the number of words spoken — instead weigh each word and supple- ment it with active compe- tence and responsibility and there you have a man.” We, the Senior Class of 1972, find it fitting to reflect and give thanks to a man who has given so much of himself to Mattituck High School. For a quarter of a century, he has served the many needs of our dis- trict. It is with great appreciation and thanks that we, the class of 1972, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. John Haas. 2 Serving Mr. Barney Sidor — President Caring Mr. Vincent Bialeski — Vice President Board Miss Mary Burns — Business Manager jy tlOTl ou's Dohm — District Clerk Together — Confident, Congratulations to a great Senior Class! Each year, as I look at the quality of our high school graduates, I become more confi- dent that our nation and world will overcome the difficult obstacles blocking peace and prosperity for all people. A glance at history indicates clearly the tremendous gains the world has made in pro- viding a better life for all people. A glance at the newspaper indicates the magnitude of the problems which remain to be solved. Hopefully, we have helped prepare you to meet these challenges through the mastery of the 3 R’s, through creating an awareness of what remains to be done, and through in- stilling a moral commitment to make our world an even more wonderful place. I am confident you have the ability and the will to meet these challenges. With best wishes for a bright future and many thanks for making Mattituck School great, I am Sincerely yours, Roger G. Burns District Principal 4 My optimism for the future of the Class of 1972 is based upon my un- derstanding of two facts — the quali- ty of the preparation you have re- ceived at Mattituck High School, and the qualities you have demonstrated as individuals and as a class while you were here. While we know that your world is filled with inequities and unan- swered questions, I hope you will view it as a world filled with the op- portunity for each of you to make a positive contribution. In any event, I am confident you will rise to the challenges life always presents. It is my faith that you will achieve great things. Bruno H. Brauner Assistant District Principal 5 Dear Seniors, It is my hope that the Guidance Department at Mattituck High School has helped you in some way to determine the course of your future. Both Mrs. Murphy and I are confident that if you continue to objectively search for your vocation in life, you will find ful- fillment. Whatever your choice for the future may be, I wish you all of the happi- ness that your lives can hold. Mrs. Elizabeth Murphy Counselor Mr. Vernon G. Grattan Senior High School Play Parents — Teachers — Students A Fair Chance For All On Friday evening, November 19. the PTA and MHS students joined to their mutual benefit to produce the PTA fair. In the cafeteria and gym, booths were set up to represent various student groups. Students in charge of publicity for the yearbook sold subscriptions, boosters, and ads; the photography club took portraits; the newspa- per campaigned for advertisements; play tickets were sold; members of the Hambone Hotline dis- played their editions; the AV was concerned with motion pictures; the Student Council sold soda, pop corn, and hot dogs; and the cheerleaders and twirlers sponsored games and activities. The Latin II class sponsored the haunted house. The purpose of the fair was to promote a liter- ary interest through the selling of books, and to raise money for the many co-curricular activities of the PTA and the students. Some of the pro- ceeds were generously donated for the purpose of buying a trampoline for use in physical education classes. Homemaking Tea This year’s homemaking tea was the first step in the establishment of a tradition in Matt- ituck High. It provided an opportunity for members of the Home Economics Department, under the direction of Miss G. Koop, to display their projects and gain recognition for their achievements as more well-rounded people. The tea was designed so that all those who at- tended could benefit, along with the students, in the worthwhile aspects of modern home- making. A. M. Kindergarten KINDERGARTEN 01 — 1st: D. Wilcenski.
