Indeed, our career g E2 1.V, through High School has been marked by various accom- x plishments and achievements, various failures and defeats, N but through it all we come, smiling at the thoughts of '- , our success, and sad at the thoughts of farewell. 'i V In the fall of 1958 a happy-go-lucky band of non- Verdantn Q as we supposedl boys and girls entered High School. We were guided through our struggles of Fresh- I mm, life by Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Warlick, Miss Puckett, Mr. V of Pittman, and Mr. Colvard. Our first year of High School i 1 life was one of keg-:nest pleasure and joy. So rapt were wo in the thrill of being in High School that no thought 1 of bein! green flashed in our minds. Nevertheless, as 1 1 the year neared its close every Freshie was joyously 'x . ,awaiting his Sophomore ranking. In the fall of 1939 we happily entered our Sophomore if v year. Our class was indeed an exception for it never up bore out the traditional meaning of the word, Sophomore . ' Our instructors this year were: Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Warlielc, f X Mr. Pittman., and Mr.. Colvard. Mr. Pittman was our home- '- room teacher and Ruth Mae Phillips was the class secretary and treasurer. We enjoyed a party given for us in the gymnasium in the early spring. As we entered our Junior . year many exciting things awaited us. Our teachers were ' Q Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Warlick, Mr. Pittmang Mr. Goodman, the 5 new agricultureteacher and Miss Anderson, teacher of X Home Economics, a subj ect which was added to our school Q that year. Our class officers were: president, Neal Nelsong vice-president, Dori s Alexander: secretary, S Mary Hunt: and treasurer, Vivian Funderburk. 1 f One notable event of this year's activities and one f which is a pleasant memory was the Junior-Senior Banquet given March 28, l94l at the S dc W Cafeteria in Charlotte, S North Carolina. -- Activities of every sort crowded this year and it A 5 sped by all too swiftly. ' Finally came that day of days for which we had striven four long, long years--the day on which we were ' officially called Seniors, wise, experienced, dignified ff 5 Seniors! We were really on the last rung of our ladder. ,,,,. . ..,-rev.---...s,?-.1,,,??g 1 'xi 59 e 4. X.1' 0 - gl 0 xl' ?? 4 H Z wr up Fe-.r -our Home-room teacher and counselor we had Mrs. War- 4 licks. Crther teachers were: Mrs. Hood, Miss Anderson, E Mr. Pearce, Mr. Goodman: and.Mr. McGill,-who successfully - filled the place of Mr. Pittman. This year every ,activity , in which Seniors have been prominent seemed to blossom i I forth and to be really worthwhile. Our class officers p, were: president, Neal Nelsong vice-president, Mary Hunt: secretary, Ellen Tye Moore: treasurer, Vivian Funderburk. The Annual Staff was made up of seven members: Editor- 'p ' in- chief, Mary Hunt: Assistant Editor-in-chief, TW. A. Crowell: Art Editor, Ellen Tye Moore: Subscription Mana- is E , ger, Catherine Rogersg Advertising Editor, Neal Nelson: Production Mfm-mer. Vivian Funderburks Picture Editor, is Rea Bass, ' o if A' goal toward which we were all working was that of taking a trip at the close of school. In order to reach' f Ss this goal we sponsored a Hallowe'en Carnival, sold ice cream at lrany of the school programs, and sold magazines f and newspapers for defense. . 4 I 52 'I The class sponsored many entertaining programs during the year to help the school purchase a motion 3, picture projector. , f One of the most memorial events this year was the J Junior Senior Banquet, held April 5, 1942 at 'Thackers ' ' R in Charlotte ,A , - N - Thus through tears through laughter, through fears, , o through joy, through work, through play, we have reached the top of the ladder and as we the Senior Class of l942, understand our endeavors we have achieved the pinnacle F of success.
