Band: Looking Good Below: A moment for good friends. Chauntel Stone and Lisa Bellware hug after a long practice. Above: An inside look at the bandroom shelves where everyone just tosses their stuff. What It Takes Many students see band as an easy ''A or a cop-out class. Well, they are wrong. The Mattawan Band members make many sacrifices for this class. They give up their extra time for monotonous practices such as early morning sectionals, evening practices, summer practices that last for weeks and go all day, and of course their own personal, motivated practice.! Why do they do all this? It's for the excitement of competition and performing, for the great feeling of personal and team accomplishment. It's also for the thrill of winning and being their best. Each member gets out exactly what they put in and more. It really takes a special kind of person to be a devoted member of this wonderful class. Looking At Choir The 1987 high school chorus has had a terrific year. With the Octet included, the choir totals at thirty students, all with fine voices. Though small, the choir represents itself well at concerts. Mrs. Overton has formed two special groups in place of the Select Choir. The Select Choir has been discontinued due to the lack of interest. These two groups are the Octet and the Quartet. The Octet consists of not eight, but nine members, due to a student transfer. It has five men and four ladies. Singing soprano are Amy Iciek and Carrie VanNiman. Accompanying the sopranos are altos Tallis Weeldreyer and Jill Russell. Tenors Kevin Hughes and Tom Shelton are joined in song by basses Mike Wilson, Brad Sams, and Derek Dejager. This group practices after school or when it is convenient for all the members. Four members comprise the Quartet. The students in this group are dedicated and devote much of their personal time to the success of the group. Amy Iciek, Tallis Weeldreyer, Kevin Hughes, and Mike Wilson are once again the members.
