Not Pictured: Janene Bohan and Denise Lindsley The Student Council at Mattawan High School consisted of thirteen students and an advisor. There were eight representatives from the senior class, three representatives from the junior class, and two representatives from the sophomore class. To be a member of this organization, the representatives had to collect twenty-five signatures, twenty-one from students and four from teachers. After that they had to be elected by the student body. The Student Council worked with the class officers to organize Homecoming and Snowcoming. They held food drives and organized an Adopt a Family program during the holiday season. They also held a Bread Lift for the March of Dimes. All in all it was a group worth watching. Kari Hall tries on the crown to be worn by the Homecoming King. Planning stages. This year's 1987-88 yearbook staff has worked hard to give the readers a high quality publication. People do not realize the excessive amount of work involved. Many long hours have been spent in the classroom and after school as the staffers hurried to meet their deadlines. Jostens is furnishing an award for one of the schools that can meet all their deadlines. It is called the Pica Award, and one of the prizes is a computer which next year's class can benefit from. Back Row: Scott Kellogg, Mike Hecker, Kris Johnson, Robb lindsley, Jane Kesteloot. Not Pictured: Erik Jefferson, Pam Jepkema. The National Honor Society was founded in the year 1921. This organization is one that is endorsed by the National Association of Secondary Principals to honor students for their academic achievements, character, leadership abilities, and service. The students that are chosen must have an overall grade point average of 3.5, and must score no less than eighty-five percent on their evaluation in character, leadership, and service by the faculty members. The advisor for the 1987-88 members is Mrs. Kennedy. This is her second year as their advisor. This year's National Honor Society members will not have any meetings or banquets. Mrs. Kennedy said there is not enough time to engage in these types of events, since the members are currently involved in many other activities. The new National Honor Society members will be inducted in the spring of this year. Mrs. Kennedy is known for her academic skills, making her a prime candidate for advisor. 71
