There is someone who falls behind. There is something that you lose, There is something that you find. For every step ahead ... There is a memory stored in your mind. There is a yesterday that’s lost, There is a love you want to find. For every step ahead ... You gain more than you lose, You learn to see the very best, But, learn to pay your dues. For every step ahead ... There is a moment you forget, There is a dream you half-remember, A friend, or some regret. For every step ahead ... There is pleasure, and there is pain, There is a sense of pride, When you see what you have gained. For every step ahead ... There is a part of you left behind, There is something for you to follow, There is a path left for others to find. For every step ahead ... There is a friendship, grown apart, There is a time that slipped away, A skinned up knee, a broken heart. For every step ahead ... You take one look behind, And when you look, remember me, I was your best friend ... ... And you were mine. Paula Harkonen (Har-ger-nen) from Finland, Rena Mehta (Me-a-tah) from Sweden, and Trond Riisnes (Rese-ness) from Norway. While attending Mattawan Paula stayed with the Flintoft family, Rena stayed with the French family, and Trond stayed with the McCartny family. We admire their courage to leave their family and friends behind to come and experience something new. We enjoyed teaching them new things as well as we did learning new things from them. Mattawan High School would like to thank them for letting us share their experience with them. piwmuzjOM 83-84 Mr. Stearns working with yearbook editor, Chris Barbee One of the main chores ... The Student Council consists of twelve high school students and one advisor, Mr. Ames. The twelve members are split into four officers and eight representatives. The Student Council members are chosen by the students at Mattawan High. Before the election, each student must get at least twenty-five people to sign his or her petition. If they succeed, then their name is added to the ballot. The Student Council has worked to provide assistance in the orderly direction of school activities, to promote a feeling of responsibility, pride, and school spirit, develop qualities of leadership and assist in making our school a better place for learning. We hope that the Student Council continues to be as successful as it was this year. Congratulations to the members of Student Council for Making this a great year! Best of luck to future members!
