I feel peaceful when I’m with good friends listening and having them listen back. They don't care if I get crazy, they understand my moods and emotions. Oh friendly person, yet not a friend, I wish that you knew me as they do, So I could share the things I want to and have you also share with me. You are different — see that in your eyes. It is my feelings about people like you That keep me from peace, yet lead me on toward it in a brighter world called heaven. K. Gar. 8 “SENIORS” Looking back over our high school years, we remember all the fun times and hardships we shared. We started our Freshman year by electing class officers who were Sue Dragicevich — President, Kathy Kozminske — Vice President, Nancy Ryan — Secretary, Carrie Revore — Treasurer, and our advisor was Mr. Hamilton. We raised money by holding a car wash which was very successful. Although our inexperience with making floats gave us a fourth place during homecoming week, the project helped bring us closer together as a class. Our Sophomore officers were Tom Farthing — President, Bambi Bailey — Vice President, Karen Garfield and Kathy Kozminske — Secretaries, Carrie Revore — Treasurer, Brad Kincade — Trustee, with advisors Miss Morningstar and Mrs. Kuschner. With the homecoming theme of Fairy Tales, we entered a float entitled Stomp ’Em, , which depicted the Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe, and received third place. In our Junior year, we elected Ellen Polderman — President, Kelly Dopheide — Vice President, Tammy Bowman — Secretary, Carrie Revore — Treasurer, and Nancy Van — Trustee. We had as our advisors, Mrs. Neal and Mr. Coady. We really were enthusiastic about the magazine drive and broke the last years’ record by a great margin. Another one of our big money-making projects was the concession stand. We had a great deal of fun working on our float entitled “The Wizard of Oz, even though we came in third. Our last big project, the prom, was a total success. The theme was Moonlight and Roses . As we began our Senior year, we elected our class officers who were Nancy Van — President, Brad Hubbell — Vice President, Tammy Bowman — Secretary, Kelly Dopheide — Treasurer, and Ellen Polderman — Trustee. Our advisors were Mr. Cretsinger and Mr. Williams. We displayed this by winning the float competition with our “Roadrunner and Coyote theme. Our next goal was to have three fund raisers for our overnight Senior trip to Toronto which was approved by the School Board. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to those people who made our last years productive and enlightening, especially Mr. Cretsinger and Mr. Williams who helped us grow and gave of themselves unselfishly in everything they did. 9 Class Colors: Blue and Gold Class Flower: Rose Class Motto: What lies behind you and what lies before you are tiny matters compared to what lies within you. We proved our overwhelming spirit by winning spirit week and dominating the cheering contests during pep assemblies. We also constructed a beautiful float, but were only awarded third place. Next came the magazine sale. We all worked hard, and had two Juniors who brought in over $200.00 in sales. The week went quickly, only for us to find out that we fell just short of our goal. It was an experience we will remember for years to come. The concession stand was also a profitable endeavor. We had a lot of fun, but lived up to our reputation of finding things to go wrong. Foamy pop. supplies that diminished instantly, and impatient customers brought on headaches and grey hairs by the dozen. A special thanks goes to those few students who helped us with the stand consistently throughout the year. We are looking forward to the Junior-Senior Prom this year. We will hold it at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and hope it will add the final touches to a year devoted to our memories forever. We would like to thank the faculty for all their help and understanding throughout the year. We would also like to thank our sponsors, Mr. Coady, Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. Creegan, and Miss Evans for their time and guidance. This year’s class officers consisted of Curtis Ferrell — President, John Kucinich — Vice President, Rich Nederhoed — Treasurer, Sherrie Hunt — Secretary, and Mike Ryan — Trustee. Well, the work and sweat are behind us, and the sunlight of being Seniors is just around the corner. We wish all the luck in the world to the graduating class of 1979 and hope that happiness shines on them forever. 39 Class of 80” Thom Michelle Duffy Chris Kathy Randy Judy Joe Ambs Arnott Austin Babbitt Baker Bloomfield Boop Bower David Susan Tonia Barb Teri Karen Teresa Linda Geren Gibbs Giddings Glidden Goodes Grabowski Gunnell Hanson Deb Hastings Cindy Hayward Susan Hayward Connie Hooper Kevin Hudson Sheri Hunt John Jackson Peggy James Kelly Bowman Mark Bramble Robin Chopp Vicki Christensen Reggie Cleveland Tim Coles Duane Correll Carmen Curton Tony Michelle Debbie Curtis Ken Ellis Ewald Farris Ferrell Forden Lori Dailey Karen Anne Annette David Dearth Dragicevich Dragicevich Duffield Denise Duncan Jim Frank Julie Freilink Mike Frommann 40 Molly Dan Karina Rene Alvin Scott Lori Mary Jennings Jepkema Kerby Kimble King Kirklin Klepper Koss Jeff Chris John Marcia Mitzi Troy Tharon Robert Kovacic Kuchenreuther Kucinich Lane Lanning Lennen Livingston Lohrberg Sharri Todd Randy Missy Jim Kevin Andy Randy MacCartny Mastenbrook McCarthy McDaniel McLarty McMann Meulman Mohney Mark Rory Debbie Connie Dan Rich Dave Gary Monk Montgomery Moon Morrow Nash Nederhoed Newhouse Nitz Laura Robin Mark Joe Teresa Dan Scott Bob O’Melay Parshall Peebles Pendowski Perry Pylar Quinn Randall Karen Debbie Karen Mike Donnie Lupe Ringler Rodebaugh Roche Ryan Saidla Sanchez Rick Ryan Saxton Schlee 41 Monte Stratton Kevin Van Dyke Ken Sullivan Kevin Van Nus Mark Thompson Kevin Thrasher Sandy Connie Warr Wegeler Brenda Ken Roger Thestram Valence Van Lori Swift Chris Vera Mark Shimrack Diane Shuster Brian Stephayn Mindy Jeff Welch Whipple Russ Young John Youngs 42 Russ Young, Andy Meulman and Roger Van Excited Sophomores Wildcats at Work and Play Richmond French, Sean Canney, Mr. Pugh, and Dave Haley Crazy Juniors!!! This year we held several money making activities including a victory dance, raffling of the game ball against K. Christian, and a T-shirt sale. Financially, our class is very well off. Our J.V. football team had a successful year. With the support of the fans and a devoted team effort, we pulled off a 9-0 season record. Our float took second place again this year. The theme was Cartoons and we chose Popeye” to be our hero. Our Homecoming float was a success, thanks to the support of local businesses and a united class effort. We would like to give a special “thanks to Mr. Vroegop, our class sponsor. 44 Felicia Mike Rick Patty Suzanne Troy Karen Mark Adams Aernie Aleksich Alford Alger Allen Anderson Avard Maria Viola Scott Annette Joe Mike Julie Linda Babbit Babcock Barnes Bloom Bloomfield Bloomfield Boop Boven Julie Pat Brenda Bob Mike Debbie Kevin Rhonda Bower Bower Bowman Braybrooks Brisky Brown Brown Brown Kevin Rick Dana Brian Bob Tami Mike Vicki Canney Carl Cavner Charles Chopp Cleaver Clements Counsins Jean Ron Rob Sue Neal Jody Debbie John Cutler Darling Davenport DeShot Dearth DeDoes Dean Dominguez Selina Gary Marc Fred Julie Todd Jerry Dick Dominguez Ewert Ferguson Fey Fisher Foote Frank Frommann 45 Becky Brenda Jon Robert Ann Debbie Donald Darcie Fullmer Gabb Gamber Gano Garfield Gearing Giddings Goette Gary Debbie Terrie Robert Cyril Kathryn Shelly Mark Goodman Granger Guilford Gustafson Hagman Hall Heacock Heidel Pennie Todd Tony Troy Ron Steve Cheryl Mary Jo Henschke Hillman Hillman Hillman Holiday Hubbell Hunt Hyde Tim Donald Chip Lynden Lisa Melinda Wendy Julie Johnson Jones Jones Kirk Kirklin Kitzmiller Kooyers Koster Lance Susan Brian Janie Scott Mike Colleen John Lingg Love Mack Martin Mastenbrook Mazzola McKenzie McKenzie Debbie Terry Sandy Ray Patricia Greg Jan Janice Nard Niederbaumer Olson Oswainy Papesh Pendowski Pioch Polderman 46 Debbie Karen Mike Mike Chris Tim Dan Ed Queen Reiley Revore Reynolds Riddle Rix Ruzick Ruzick Kevin Brian Barbie Rhonda Nancy Sonja Jody Keith Sackett Saidla Saunders Saxton Schindler Selonke Sherman Sherman Allen Brad Jamie Paul Mike Rusty Alicia Richard Shore Simonds Simpson Smith Sokolowski Stafford Stanley Starr Tammy Barbie Sheryl Ron Scott Todd Ron Sue Stickney Stratton Straube Strong Taylor Taylor Thompson Toxopeus Steve Kim Tammy Tony Mark Glenda Kim Lisa Ullrey Van Dyke Van Engen Veldt Watson Welch Weston Williams Linda Wendy Missy Bruce Lisa Ken Lori Wilson Wolff Wolff Wood Wright Zabavski Zabavski 47 Ron Strong Pep Assembly Crowd Dave Newhouse in a hurry! The float was constructed at the Stevens’ residence. Though our float, “Mickey and Minnie Mouse, placed fourth in the contest, we put forth a great effort. Following homecoming we sponsored a dance on January 5, 1979. We had a great turnout. With the money earned we covered homecoming debts and started a treasury. We plan to hold candy sales in the future and organize many more dances. There also will be many more fund raising activities held during this year that we are uncertain of at this time. Though this is our first year being involved in a student government, it is very challenging and we are all honored to have such a privilege. The Freshman officers this year are Chris Avard — President, Annette Meyer — Vice President, JoAnn Steadmon — Treasurer, Faith Thompson — Secretary, Darla DeVries — Trustee, and Mr, Clark is our sponsor. 50 Mark Mark Wilbur Sue Abernathy Aernie Ampey Anderson Brian Eric Anspaugh Antisdale Dave Ashbrook Chris Avard Chris Barnes Steve Betteley Ted Beutlar Scott Blowers Cathy Austin Jennie Blum Mark Anita Judy Beth Boven Boynton Bramble Breed Eric Jennifer Sheryl John Brunden Chodos Christensen Clark Frank Linda Tim Bobby Gerry Pat Rich Darla Conklin Crawford Culbertson Dailey DeBoer DeHann Derhammer DeVries Jeff Duffield Sue Nancy Ewert Glenn Ferrell Byron Dale Eckler Roy Forden Ron Foster Grant Frielink John Gabb Mike Gaines Dave Garrison Bob Geering Anne Glidden Joann Grabowski Dave Granger 51 Barb Howse Jackie Hurst Jill Linda Pam Johnson Johnson Johnson Anne Teresa Dave Hiscock Holman Hopkins Troy Johnson Donna Jones Dawn Lohrberg Tim Lord Ron Miller April Moon Jim Nezemis Debbie Kison Jerry Kovacic Jeff Kuipers Melanie Lane Terry Lennen Brad Jody Maxam McLemore Dale Mike Moon Moriarty Tammy Mead Donna Meisling Vicki Mengel Annette Meyer Tammy Craig Matt Beverly Munting Nadrasik Nash Nederhoed Andy Carl Nicks Norris Karl Scott O’Melay Ottney Greg Roger Overton Owsiany 52 Greg Jim Robin David Cindy Doreen Liz Robin Papierz Partain Paterson Pfau Puzevic Pylar Ranney Regalado Robert Judy Kate Brenda Dave Todd Katie Jeff Reynolds Richmond Riddle Riggs Rodebaugh Rothi Saunders Schipper Shawn Robert Connie Carla Buddy Eric Debbie Joanne Schlee Schultz Self Simmons Smith Smith Snow Steadmon Matt Kim Faith Sue Lynda Alison James Scott Stevens Sullivan Thompson Thompson Thompkins Topham Turner Ullrey Alan Chris Annette Cindy Laura Rick Janet Tracy Valance VandeMaele VanEngen VanEpps Veldt VerSluis Vorachek Walling Richard Bruce Barb Dirk Kelly Steve Billy Lisa Watson Weathers Weddington Weeldreyer Welch Wetters Williams Williams 53 Mike Williams William Wittliff Todd Wolthuis Julie Woodard Dan Young Lori Young It’s all gossip!!! “I really didn’t want to see that movie anyway!” 54 Junior English is exciting ! The team has traveled extensively throughout Michigan, participating in tournaments in Dearborn, Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Richmond, and Battle Creek, as well as competing at tournaments in our own area. A forensic team is much like a track team in that it is made up of several people who all participate in different kinds of speaking events. These events include Humorous Interpretative Reading, Serious Interpretative Reading, Dramatic Duo, Multiple Reading, Storytelling, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Radio Broadcasting. Although inexperienced, the team has an abundance of talent and enthusiasm, along with stamina enough to bear several early morning weekend trips. The forensic team should have a very exciting year! Christian teams, and one each from Kalamazoo Central, Loy Norrix, Gull Lake and Plainwell. Teams consist of three guys and three girls. After a mediocre first half season, the A team is hoping for a 1 st place berth, while the B team is in pursuit of that same berth. We editors screamed At the top of our lungs, Sponsor! Dear Sponsor! What can be done7 We can’t find the pictures, The photographers are gone, The darkroom is flooded — This just can’t go on!” Late into the night We worked (until day), Got the annual finished And sent it away. — Erin Muths This poem explains the growth of our yearbook. The year started off very slowly for us. Many of us were new to the process, but we learned quickly. There are many people whom I would like to make a special thanks to. Mr. Johnston, Miss West, Mrs. Ray, Mr. DeDoes, Carole Heaton, David Gamber, and Karen Garfield are just a few. I would also like to make a very special thanks to our sponsor, Mr. Goodwyn, who has helped us greatly throughout the year. He has put up with our fights, our tears, our joy, and our laughter, and without him we would not have made it. Though there were hard times, we all had fun and enjoyed ourselves. I would like to wish everyone the best of luck and I would also like to wish next year’s yearbook staff all the luck in the world. You’ll need it!! Nancy Ryan Editor 104
