The Class of '78 landed in high school in the fall of 1974. We came in as most Freshmen, a bit nervous, scared of the new environment, yet full of energy. We started out to set the world on fire, but ended up getting singed when our Homecoming float crawled into fourth place. It was called “Cave 'em In. starring George Sanchez and George Hayward. We elected four courageous people to lead us through that perilous year: President — Gail Eberly. Vice-President — Pauline Saunders, Secretary Nancy Moyle, and Treasurer — Jan Brant. Mr. Hamilton reluctantly relented to be our sponsor that year, and we wish to thank him for his efforts. Summer came and went, and we again found ourselves wandering aimlessly through the halls of M.H.S. However. we were Sophomores and were suddenly older and wiser. We managed to elect four new officers: President — Vic Wolff. Vice President — Terri Wolthuis. Secretary — Cathy Revore. and Treasurer — Brenda Saidla. Mr. Grosser was our sponsor, lending support during our trials and tribulations. The big event of the year. Homecoming, was a bit more glamorous than the previous year. Our “Blast ’Em creation won second place in float competition. Throughout the year we improved our financial status and finally got out of debt. This set the pace for our glorious Junior year. As Juniors, we improved our attitude and became more responsible. Our Homecoming float. “Mirror, mirror on the wall. . . . designed by Jerry Cox. topped the field. We then set a new school record in magazine sales, beating the Class of 1977 by about $500. Leadership for this busy year was provided by President — Vic Wolff. Vice President — Sue Yonkers. Secretary — Leslie Dearth, Treasurer — Cathy Revore, and Trustees — Sue Johnson and Jim Neubauer. Mr. Cretsinger and Mr. Williams emerged as our sponsors, advisors, and friends. In the spring, we closed our Junior year by sponsoring the social event of the season, the Prom. This unforgettable Prom was held at Western Michigan University's Ball Room, and the theme was Images of Youth. The Prom committee worked long and hard to make Prom '77 the best ever. Our Senior year finally began. We elected the following officers for our final year: President — Vic Wolff (sound familiar?). Vice President — Jim Neubauer. Secretary — Sue Yonkers, Treasurer — Cathy Revore, and Trustees -Laura Hanson and Nancy Moyle. Mr. Cretsinger and Mr. Williams stuck by us as advisors through thick and thin. Our Homecoming float once again reigned victorious: “Jaws” destroyed all the other contenders. Class ranking revealed Dagmar Heib and Sue Ellis as academic leaders. Laura Hanson was chosen D.A.R. Good Citizen. Many individuals shined in their various fields, but unfortunately they can not all be acknowledged here. We would like to extend thanks to everyone who helped make our high school experience as enjoyable and profitable as possible. A very special thanks to Mr. Cretsinger and Mr. Williams for their exceptional patience and attempts to pour us all into the mold of success. The class of '19 selected as their Junior officers, Ellen Polderman, President; Kelly Dopheide, Vice President; Carrie Revore, Treasurer; Tammy Bowman, Secretary; and Nancy Van, Trustee. We had many hours of fun creating our “Yellow Brick Road” float which placed third at the Homecoming festivities. The Juniors did a super job during the magazine sales drive. We passed our goal by topping last year’s Juniors. We are doing an equally fine job preparing for this year’s prom which is to be held at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. We are looking forward to our upcoming Senior year with enthusiasm. We would also like to thank Mrs. Neal and Mr. Coady for their help in making our year successful. 30 Cathy Brisky Ty Brodhagen Bob Brooks Debbie Sue Dragicevich Dave Dunn Pam Eggen Judy Ellis 31 Dragicevich Juniors Tim Ewert Mike Ferguson Gregg Gabry David Gamber Marianne Hagard Tom Hall Darwin Harrison Jerry Hastings Charles Heaton Tim Heimonen Lisa Henwood Sue Hiemstra Steve Holman Heidi Hooker Wally Hopkins Brad Hubbell Julie Hudson Greg Kitzmiller Beth LeRoy Dianne Petersen Lora Kerr Kerry Knowlton Doug MacCartny Brad Kincade Marty Korteway Brian Maxam Chris Olson John Kison Kenneth Kwiat Ke-ri Neale JoeOtten Alan Niederbaumer Sherri Nutter Jeff Parrish Gary Papierz Ellen Polderman Tom Pomeroy Linda Pontious Carrie Revore Ed Reynolds Cherlyn Ritsema Jill Robyn Mary Beth Roche Larry Rothi Denise Rouse 33 Brenda Sirrine Dustin Sirrine Gary Smead Michelle Smith Todd Sokolowski Tracie Sokolowski Randy Stafford Donna Starks Patricia Steadmon Cindy Stickney TinaStickney Bill Straube Debbie Taylor John Taylor Nancy Van Vicki Vaughn Sarah Veldt Jessie Vera Laura Vorachek Matt Watson George Weathers Marilyn Welch Jay Wilcox Wendy Wilcox Lori Williams Pam Wolthuis Sheri Woodward Carol Young Roslyn Zach Phil Rouse 35 Sophomores Back row: Connie Wegler. This year we sponsored a dance, but unfortunately the money was stolen. We worked hard on the float and finished with a high fourth. This year’s accomplishments were few and far between, but we are planning for bigger and better things ahead. This year’s officers did a fine job in balancing the budget. It can be characterized by fine team play, excellent defense, a good bench, and a winning attitude. The team first in the Lawton Christmas Tournament, second in the KVA. and was in the finals in the districts. The season was highlighted by defeating Parchment twice, several come from behind wins, especially the tournament game with Marcellus. and a fine tournament showing. Seniors who will be sorely missed next year are Jim Neubauer. Karl Kearcher. Greg Bowman, Daryl DeVries. Rich Quinn, and Mark Watson. Six Juniors return next season, giving us a strong nucleus for another strong team next year. The team finished this season with a 17 win-6 loss record. 66 DARYL GREG RICH Leading scorers: Jim Neubauer 13 pt. avg. Karl Kearcher 10 pt. avg. Stacey Cummings 10 pt. avg. At this time I would like to thank all those who have helped complete this yearbook. It was a laborious task to compile every sports activity, organizational club, and any extra curricular activity but with the help of my staff and sponsor. Mr. Ken Snow this yearbook is finally completed. 1 would like to thank some special people for all their help, one being the teachers for all their patience this year as I know I interrupted many a class for pictures, questions or meetings. I would like to make a special thank you to Nancy Ryan for all her typing. And with one final thank you to the yearbook staff itself for their efforts. Good Luck to each and every one of you next year. Emily Dailey Editor TEXAS TAKE OUT Compliments of: LIQUOR — BEER — WINE — GROCERIES 7058 W. Q. AVE.
