September 1973. we hesitantly stepped through the doors of Mattawan Highschool. The first few months were full of tough adjustments and many times we wanted to scurry back to the building next door, but we chugged along through our 4th place '■earthy HomeComing float, (which has been the joke of our class since) and the dances and sports events. We even had our own T.V. raffle! By the end of the year we were well into the swing of school events. Our freshmen officers were Pres.-K. Kearcher. V. Pres.-J. Lowe. Sec.-B. Sherman, and Treas.-T.J. Neubauer. As our sophomore year rang in. we knew the school and could then laugh at the new freshmen. Our HomeComing Float was a Flintstone car and a great success as it took first prize along with our class winning spirit week. We again sponsored dances and had a pot-luck dinner and movie night that was much fun and even quite successful We had had more enthusiam and participation from class members and we continued to grow closer to one another each day. Our officers were Pres.-J. Lowe, V. Pres.-B. Sherman. Sec.-J. Pendowski, and Treas.-T.J. Neubauer. Then it hit! We were Juniors, upperclassmen. And what an exciting year we had. It all began with breaking the school record for magazine sales and winning spirit week for the second consecutive year of HomeComing with help from our first place float- The Declaration of Victory. Our toughest but most rewarding project was the Junior Senior Prom which we proudly presented to the departing class of 76 . The theme for our Prom was Stairway to Heaven. The officers were Pres.-J. Pendowski, V. Pres.-B. Sherman. Sec.-J. Pendowski. and Treas.-T.J. Neubauer. Our Senior year at MHS began September 8. 1976. We slipped into action during HomeComing week, finding ourselves in corn fields, chicken coops, and activity-filled barns. We once again led the school in spirit during the week with our undying enthusiam. However, our float. Blow 'Em Over , didn’t quite hit the top. but was close behind with a 2. Then, our candy sales rolled into action and continued for months afterwards. Our Senior Class officers were Pres.-J. Lowe. V. Pres.-M. Hartwigsen. Sec.-T.J. Neubauer, Treas.-C. DeVries, and Trustee-R. Bercik. As we approach the door leading away from Mattawan to other places in life, we turn back with great memories and extreme gratitude to all who have made our journey so fulfilling, wave our last good-bye. and once again hesitantly step through the door to everywhere. Take it easy. The Class of 1977 7
