The closer graduation gets, the more often I stop to recall all the little events that made my years in school a success. Do you remember when I started Junior High? I really felt good! I thought I had it made but it didn't take me long to find out differently. I thought I was really grown up; two days later I found out just how big I was when a senior tripped me in the hall. How about my first report card? It wasn't excellent, but at least you didn't ground me; that came later in the year. We seemed to have a little trouble adjusting to the seventh grade. Do you remember the first dance I attended—what a flop!! Eighth grade was easier though, I knew more about what I was to expect. When I started in the ninth grade, there wasn’t much difference, except I was closer to the top of the ladder. I remember many times that year when Icamehome full of excitement, just bursting with things to tell. Of course, the work got harder; I worked at some of them, and they were much better than my first dance. Do you remember during my sophomore year the biology trip to Chicago? I don't think my feet will ever forget it; we were gone from 7:30 to 6:30. What a day! I also remember the night I came home and told you I'd found the greatest person in the world and that I was going steady. Two weeks ended that relationship—we just weren't meant for each other. Do you remember how I tried to get you to use the sophomore coat check at the basketball games? Speaking of basketball games, you can remember how much spirit our class had at pep assemblies? Somehow we lost it, I guess as we grow older we decide that we don't have to show how we feel. Our junior year was the greatest! We had dances, refreshment stands, the play, the banquet, and the prom! We made money for the prom by selling magazines and stationery. Oh, when I think how hard we worked to make the prom a hit and the relief we shared when it was a success. And now I'm on the last legs of my senior year. It's hard to realize that I'm on the top of the ladder in high school. Soon, I'll be walking down the aisle with fifty-three other seniors for the last time as a student here at Mattawan. I imagine we'll all have tears in our eyes or a warm place in our hearts. But you know, Mom and Dad, none of this would have been possible without you, so I want to say thanks. Thank you for everything.
