VARSITY FOOTBALL Starting the season with two heart breaking losses, Mattawan bowed to Paw Paw and Decatur by one point. RESERVE FOOTBALL The 1953 reserve football squad had a fairly successful season as they finished with a record of one win, three losses and one tie In the opening encounter of the season, the little Wildcats” lost a hard fought 21-12 decision to Paw Paw They played by far the best game of the campaign at Vicksburg as they swamped the Bulldogs” seconds 18-0 The next two games went to the opponents who were Bangor and Comstock by scores of 6-0 and 20-6 respectively The squad traveled to Galesburg for their final test of the season and ended up with a 7-7 tie in a hard fought battle Standing left to rights Coach Wheeler, Fred Brisky, David Williams, Tom Brown, Jim Russell, Roger Wagy, Ed Cleaver, David Cowley, Hayes Brown, Jay Brock and Coach Piggott Seated left to rights Duane Simonds, Jaok Simonds, Terry Glidden, Harry Blanchard, Mike Stone, Paul Aleksich, Philip Rolff, Garrett Korteway, and John McGrow
