Text from Pages 1 - 60 of the 1952 volume:

Mr. Rix and Mr. Moyle are already fixing the boilers and checking the pumps and all the numerous mechanical equipment which makes a school run smoothly and efficiently. FRANK POWERS In a few moments the busses will arrive and the halls will be filled with excited confusion and happy laughter, but as we stand in the quiet corridors we seem to be surrounded by the spirits of brave lads from Mattawan High who gave their lives for their country on far fixing battle fields. Kenneth Hall; Paul Abnet- -their names will always be held in glorious memory. To Frank Powers, a later hero who gave his life in the present fighting in Korea, we reverently dedicate this yearbook. ▲ clatter leads us to the kitchen where we find Mrs Kiirble, Mrs. Beebe, and Mrs. Farthing getting ready for the noon day lunch. First to enter the front doors are Mr. Borough, our Superintendent, and Mr. Pearson, our Principal. In a few moments Mr. Borough will be plunged into administrative work and a long line of students will line up before Mr. Pearson's desk waiting for him to give them excuses or otherwise solve their problems. Mr. Piggott (Coach), Mias Monroe (Music) discuss rehearsal of the Minstrel Show with Mr. Borough (Supt.) and Mrs. Weiss (Bookkeeper) Mr. Hartwick (Librarian) mulls over library problems with Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Uarnden (Jr. High Teachers). Mr. Gianunzio (Eng.) and Mr. Persing look over the Yearbook plan with Mr. Ryan (Comm.). Miss Swanson (Math), Mr. Miller (Coach), and Mr. Hansen (Science), talk Shop with Mr. Pearson (Principal). Mrs. Moyle, Mrs. Howe, Mrs. Weber , and Mrs. Carter (Grade Teachers) hold an early morning conference at the drinking fountain. We find Mrs. Thorton (Home Ec.), Mr. Jungel, (Ag.), ar}d Mr. Barber (Shop) in the Ag. Room settling the problem of the F.F.A. Fair. The grade school teachers took time out to come down to the High School and have tea, and pose to have their pictures taken. Standing: Mr. Spitzer and Mr. Mai Anderson, Seated Left to Right: Mrs. Fern Carrington, Miss Frances Calay, Mrs. huth Breed, Mrs. Irene Goodrich, Miss uith Passmore, and Mrs. Mary Jane Parr. Things sure have Changed!i We can remember not long ago, whan we came into high school for the first time in September 19M3, a wide-eyed bunch of half scared kids, weighted down with the responsibility of being Freshmen. Didn't.take us long to catch on, though. Barbara Branch Donna Babcock, Frances Van Maaren and Don Ross joined us in the 9th grade. We put a dance on to raise money for our class after we were promoted to the tenth grade. We gloriously decorated the gym for the Halloween Dance. Our Junior year was full of activities to raise money. We presented our Junior Play Just Ducky , a three-act comedy with twelve characters, on November 17, 1950. We put on A Valentine Dance which was very successful. We sold refreshments at our home ball games. We also had a magazine sale and a sale of little Memory books. The Juniors gave the Seniors a Prom on May 26th 1951 The theme was Blossom Time , with Jen Jenson's Orchestra. At this time Alice Giddings joined our happy class. Our Senior year gave us a total of twenty-one students. Glenadine Kline and Bill Ross were the two students who joined us in the twelth grade. The Senior boy's'began collecting scrap metal while the Senior girls had candy sales. We presented the Amastars Program on November 29. We sponsored a dance. We sold Stanley Wax and Furniture cream to earn money for our Senior trip. April 18th and 19th we gave our play ■Suspense , a three-act mystery-comedy with thirteen characters making up the cast. Everybody is now looking forward to the big Senior Trip to Washington D. C., skip day. Prom and Commencement. When all is completed the Seniors of 52 will face the future. Wo wonder where they'll be five years from now. For some of them it will be pretty easy to guess: We Just saw Dick Strong's picture in the paper. He was Just elected the nation's number one All American Farmer. Alice biddings, is happily married with two children running around. Johnny Klimek, is a street cleaner, working his way up to be President of the U. S. Loretta Eggen is still looking for that certain young fellow. Don Ross is now a co-partner with the Howdy Doody T. V. program. After being interested in Paw paw for so long, Donna 3abcock is living there. Bud Hetrick finished his first season coaching at Notre Dame. Caroline Miller, is operating a large line of Wiley Soda Bars. Jack Austin, is trying to get enough points to go on the trip with the F. F. A. boys. Glenadine Kline, is a private secretary (private that is for J. Root). Jim Root, is trying to get into Frankie Laine's shoes (but they don't fit, they are too small.) Having trouble with your hair lately? See Frances Van Maaren the new beauty operator. Ray Cronkhite is trying real hard to keep his band together. Jerry Ann Dunn, is working in Thrift's shoe store, getting shoes for her kids on discount. We left Harry Krajewski in Washington, as manager of the Winery. Norma Underwood, is head typist for the next President, which might be John Klimek. The news came from the University of California, that Bill Gaines is a professional basketball star. Barbara Branch Just returned from the Naval Academy in Washington D. C., after serving five years with the Navy. Coming out of the college doors we see Gloria Wise with her diploma. Anyone having animal trouble, see Bill Ross, the new veterinarian. In the stock car races we see Bob MacPherson driving car number 1 -jU i T 10111 wan© nunn, nicnara MarKie, Jerry Dudgeon, Bob Fee.
