Being the exciting movie writer that I am. I've decided to come out with a motion picture that features a wonderful superhero with qualities that are incredible. This hero is going to be remembered and idolized, by millions, maybe billions, of fans. He is going to be so popular, there are going to be lunchboxes. tee-shirts, posters, and even cereal boxes with his face posted on them, after my movie comes out, that is. First I will need a name for my hero. Superman has already been used. Mighty Man is too childish-l think I'll go with something that's original. I'll start off with an H for handsome, then A for admirable. V for noble and wise, and K for knowing everything. All those letters that represent something that describe my superhero spell out Hank. Quite a unique name for a hero, don't you think? There are many more things left out that should be in his name, but how many letters can you fit on one cereal box? Second, I will need a description of his character. Most important, Hank must be very nice looking-that will attract a lot of girls to the movie theater. He also will have a beautiful body with many muscles (which of course, he gets from flying to other planets). Hank must have curly brown hair with big green eyes (I'm sick of those blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauties). For his personality, he must have a great sense of humor, and also be charming. He should be cool and brave. He will be a great fighter, leader, and companion. Next, we must give Hank some talents, talents like no other hero has. These powers have been passed down through his family from a distant planet. Let’s give Hank the ability to read other people's minds and see the future so he can tell what his enemy is thinking. He can also run and swim up to 100 mph. and has strength to lift anything under 3 tons. He is immune to mortal weapons like guns. Let's also give him the smarts of a computer. Since his powers only come from his family, his arch enemy must also come from there, because their powers are similar. Let's say he was his evil devious cousin from the dark side of the family. His name will be Rank. Pank is slightly weaker than Hank but he always puts up a good fight in which, of course, Hank wins. His enemy has got to be ugly, mean, fierce, and just plain bad. I might also give Hank a girlfriend, a beautiful young girl whom he may have to fight Pank for. Yes-that will be the theme of my movie-the box office smash! I think I may even play Hank The End which means no more Hanky-Panky. Beth Cahill Front Row: Aimee Vandali, Jennifer Dill. Judy Mayo, Elaine Gray. Leah Edwards. Mi- chelle Grant. Second Row. Despite the low number in the win column the lady Lynx finished high in spirit, pride and determination. The team played well against many top teams; and often games were lost in the final minutes. The Lynx jayvees finished with a 3-6-2 record and showed much promise for future M.A. teams. Seven seniors have played their last season at M.A. Sue Tolman. Patti Pelkey. Woody Summerson, Liz Stavang. Michelle Tots ter. Aimee Vandali, and Jen- ny Pepin. Once again there were many participants and hopes are high for M.A. field hockey. Seniors. L to R Aimee Vandali. This was good enough to finish second in the Penquis League. At the Eastern Maine meet the boys fin- ished 4th which qualified them for state action. At the State meet the boys finished 8th. The boys were led by sophomore Pat Boss who finished 2nd at the League meet. 7th at the Eastern Maine meet, and 16th at the State meet. Ken Audet and Jason Rush showed vast improvement over last year. Once again Ron Kafka and Chris Weed had their best performances at the big meets. Freshmen Greg Brooke. Chris Hyde and Ivan Porter also contributed to the scoring. The girls x-country team had injury problems at the end of the year. They finished the regular season with a record of 5-6. This was one of the best performances of any M.A. indoor track team in recent memory. The girls finished the regular season with an 8-11 record. Cindy Lee established a new school record in the shot put with a put of 35'5”. This bettered the old mark by several feet. Chris Weed established new school records in the 300 and the long tump. In the 600 and 1.000 Ron Kafka broke records belonging to David Nankes. Brian Leonard has been a consistent jumper and hurdler for the Lynx. All three seniors have an opportunity to bring home medals from the Easterns and States. The top three boys in cross-country skiing were Mike Gifford. Derek Ayer, nd Jeff Chesley. That 's a lot of sideline cheers, floor cheers, pyramid and crowd cheers! The J. V. and Varsity girls are a dedicated group. During pre-season they practiced every day after school for two hours. Practice continues during the season. The girls also attended a cheering clinic at UMO. returning home in time to travel to an away game. That’s dedication! FRESHMAN BASKETBALL BOYS' BASKETBALL Let's go LynxI The 1984-85 boy's basketball season turned out to be a disappointing one for the coach and his players. After a good start with some close losses and good wins before Christmas, we had to scramble to finish up with a nine and nine season. The team was led by Sophomore Curtis Robertson with twenty points and thirteen rebounds per game and senior Keith Priest with six rebounds and fourteen points per game. Other seniors captain Adam Asher, Marc Crocker and Kevin Lee will be greatly missed along with Keith. The outlook is good for the coming year with Juniors Mini Archer and Bruce Albert, and Sophomores Glenn Thurlow and Scott Gordon returning with much experience obtained throughout the season. The credit lies mainly with the team members who contributed their time, skills, efforts and enthusiasm unselfishly for M.A. Instrumental team members who. because of their great performances, allowed only 5 of the 13 games to be close ones were: JuniorS: Skip Gerry. Scott Jipson. Pat Leonard. Danny Archer. Sophomores. Chns Carr. Tim Guiod. Jason Gagnon, and newcomer. Frank Doherty. Rounding out the team with great strides in improvement and much needed experience for next year's team were Sophomores Jamerson Smith. Jason Rush. Joe Brown. Jim Flanders. Davey Cull ins. and Curt Ring. For all your efforts and accomplishments fellows, you should feel proud of the way you represented yourselves and your school this season. Our J.V. squad finished with a record of O 3. the finest in eight years at M.A. The Varsity Lynx ended the season at 9-9 and were in tournament contention throughout. The J.V. record is more impressive when one considers that the girls won three of those games without starter Lisa Conroy. The team was one of few stars, but one of a lot of willing workers. Under Coach Ballard’s guide nee. they became a poised and dedicated group of young women. Congratulations girls, we hope to see you next year. The Varsity Lynx were also hurt by lack of man power later in the season, but they too aquitted themselves well. We had only two starting lettermen this season and only five returning balllplayers. Our luniors were equal to the task though, as they moved into the starting lineup at key bench positions. The return of Patti Pelky and the arrival of Tammy Bernard and Sabrina Leavitt solidified them in December. The L ynx. who were supposed to rebuild this year, played such powers as Mt. View and Stearns even up. If we can find more hidden talent to replace seniors Patti Pelkey. Sue Tolman. and Jenny Pepin, the L ynch could be reloading instead of rebuilding in 85 86. Once again Derek Ayer was voted MVP by his teammates while Benje Oliver was the Lynx most improved golfer. Perhaps the highlight of the season was Harley Sprout's emergence as a star of stage, screen, and channel 7 sports at this year's regional, tournament. There are many good players returning who could, with a commitment to the sport over the summer, become a factor in next years Penquis League Race. BOWLING Hey! In the doubles. Tom Whitney and Tom Gorsline narrowly defeated another strong M.A. team of Roy Voisine and Mark Crocker by 17 pins to take the top spot. For the senior girls. Pelkey In the serenity of the woods And the calmness of the fields A friend can be found. — Debra Butterfield THE STAGES OF FALLING IN (PUPPY) LOVE When you first meet the man of your dreams, you must find out what his schedule is. To do this, follow him. discreetly, wherever he goes. After a few days you shall know it well. Your next step is to compare your classes with his. This allows you to be in the right place when he comes out of class. This will eventually become a routine to you. By knowning his schedule, you will know exactly where he is at all times. Your heart will begin to tingle when you know what he eats for lunch. By eating what he does, you II have something in common. This will later become a basis for conversation. Sit at a table that is a comfortable distance away from his. When standing in the lunch line, be sure to be three or four people away so that you can hear everything he says without him knowing it. , You will begin to write his name on your books, sneakers and arm. That s ok. because it proves that you re really in love. It will be hard to concentrate in class, so bring paper and pencil. With instruments you will plan out your wedding. Decide which of your friends will be bridesmaids, ushers, etcetera. This will take you a couple of classes. You can then begin to draw out your house plans. Never tell him this as you wouldn t want to sound pushy. Another good thing to do is to get the yearbook photographer to get a candid of him for you. This photo, of course, will be in your possession at all times. Your next step will be to find out where he lives. Be sure to ride by there three times a day. Find out if he eats at McDonald’s, if he does, go there whenever possible. If he plays a sport, attend every game. Flang out by the vending machines after school, so that if you're lucky, you can see him in his practice clothes. You might want to purchase a pair of sweatpants or shorts like his. Also, get his phone number and memorize it. Do not leave it lying around on a book. A friend or your sister might be curious. Now that you know all you can about him. first before you do anything, discourage any other girls from liking him. Tell them he 's a whimp or something. Say hi whenever possible. Don't over do it. though. He could become annoyed. You'll know that it is true love when he sincerely says hi back to you. Once you ha ve gone through all of your steps, you re on your own. This is a very crucial time because you ve got to get the same hi out of him or there may be reason for alarm. Your next step may only be one line of conversation. It will take some time.
