Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1984 volume:

Someone said, I need help with my jump shot. Mr. Reed, will you help me?” And he helped. Another said, Mr. Reed, we’re having a car wash to raise money. Will you be there?” And he was. And still another said, I'm having trouble understanding Shakespeare. Will you help me learn, Mr. Reed?” And he taught. For all the time, dedication, and understanding he has given us, the Class of 1984 dedicates this edition of Pine Needles, with pride and gratitude, to Mr. Greg Reed — a coach, an advisor, but, above all. a teacher. Thanks, Mr. Reed. You've got class. Richard Greenlaw Principal Clarence Thompson Asst. Julie and David have been chosen as our All School Favorites of 1984. Their dedication throughout the walls of Mattanaw- cook Academy and the athletic fields of our school portrays a quality about them that makes these two people very special, congratulations Julie and David. May you both find happiness in all that you do. OUK MSA K ZS Just one more kiss while the parents are away the kids will play Just call me the spotted wonder What a mess Don’t cry you’ll live Elementary my dear I can't breath Suddenly the month of October shriveled up and blew off the calendar. The search for a director became frantic. Just as No- vember was rolling our it's basketballs, a volunteer was found and casting began. It was now or never. Then came the snow storms and the lost rehearsals. It was almost never! In spite of all the difficulties, all the elements and all the squabbles, the class of '84 was able to pull together once again and Our Hears Were Young and Gay” became another senior success story. Who will forget Ann and Sandra as the two lost sheep who really weren't so upset at being lost? Or Janice's bed bugs? Or Larry as a Harvard man? Or Dale parading to class as Moliere? (Nice tights) Just one more curtain call for the class of '84. We were very proud of our Kim Stewart, who won the primary nomination for Governor for the Nationalist Party. Unfortunately she did not win, but she won various awards for her achievements. I sincerely hope that you find this book enjoyable, and in the future you. too. get involved with producing your yearbook. (J cl Lip C-l V? nui atz') { 61 men mocks] This year's Field Hockey Team was again a large numbered one. This made it easy to have a J.V. squad as well as a Varsity squad of about 20 players per team. It also helped with playing time as all the players were able to play in the games. Because of the large body of veterans we had. the skills level of most players increased, along with knowledge of the game and the rules. This made for a better program and also allowed for some fun and enjoyment of playing Field Hockey this year. We started pre-season August 26 and worked hard on conditioning and game situations. We participated in a play day at Guilford, where the pre-season work paid off with the results of win- ning 3 out of 4 scrimmages. This years season in the league, however, proved to be an extremely competitive one. We ended our season with a record of 4-5-1 finishing in 14th place in Eastern Maine playoff standings. The fall of 1983 saw the Lynx football team record the winningest season in modern MA history with a record of 8 wins against just I loss. Only undefeated state champion Dover Foxcroft was able to defeat MA as they scored a 12-6 overtime victory on opening day to make an otherwise perfect season. Allen Brown and Hayden McCarthy captained the team which also received fine leadership from all thirteen seniors who constituted the backbone of the team. An illustration of the overall strength and team work of this football team is the fact that it featured two 1,000 yards rushers in the persons of Hayden McCarthy and Galen Pelkey. That was the best record for a J.V. team in six years. It becomes more impressive when one considers that all four losses were by a combined total of 7 points! Certainly dedication, motivation and teamwork made this group of young ladies achieve far beyond what anyone had expected of them. Congratulations on a fine season. When September came of ’83 we approached our final year. Some with anticipation, others with a dreaded fear. Sports and academics, meetings to attend. Would really have no meaning if not shared with a friend. True friends aren't found that often, but they do exist somewhere, They're people just like you 6 me who really show they care.” The good-byes will be the hardest, but I hope that you will see. The reason for all our happiness is due to each memory. So when the final day approaches not knowing what to say, give me a smile, and take in your grasp What Can We Do Together ' ZMS MBKKJjCjC ZKUSZ CO. 81 Main St. Lincoln.
