Yearbook Staff '78 112 Leaving was hard for him. He had put four years of hard work into this building, and saying good-bye would be difficult. As he stood in the middle of the gym at his honor ceremony, he felt all the 1000 plus eyes cast upon him. He felt the embarrassment of being recognized, and he couldn't help but wonder if they were being sincere in their standing ovations and good-bye wishes. As he stood listening to the assistant principal speak, He tried to conceal his emotions by kicking the floor, spreading the dust over the center circle of the gym—where it said MA . He looked down at the circle and began thinking about his exper- iences at the school. Sometimes it was a hassle, but overall it was a good experience. He truly felt he was a better person, as well as a better administrator for being principal at this school. He looked up for a moment to see his daughter, a freshman at the school, looking at him with a tear in her eye. It would be very difficult for her, always moving around. All of a sudden an incredible feeling came over the man—a strong yearning. He wanted to tell the assistant principal to stop his testimonial. He wants to tell the whole school, I want to stay!! But he knew this was impossible, for all the arrange- ments have been made, and all the papers had been signed. So as much as he hated it, he must say good-bye to this wonderful building and to the teachers and to the students, whom the man had seen grow and develop. He walked up to the mike (what do I say? — What can I say?) When I left Paris Island they told me that Marines don't cry 1978 WINTER CARNIVAL 2 Sandie Oullette, Senior; Donna Pepin, Junior; Mike Murchison, Senior; Glenn Susie Potter, Soph.; Ingrid Brown, Frosh O'Donal, Junior; Jim Gilpatrick, Soph.; David Brown, Frosh 4 ROW 1: A. Two seniors were on this year's team, Liz Russell and Gay Thompson. Gay was voted Most All Around by the players. Mary Cesare earned the title of Best Offense and Darcy Arnold was voted Best Defense. Donna Weatherbee and Sandi Colby shared the title of Most Improved. With many young players, next year's team should have a good season. SOFTBALL 78 5 ROW 1: J. Curry, S. Neal, C. Gulesian, A. Once again a trip to the southern part of the state provided us with an opportunity to play an extra eleven games. We are one of the few teams in the area that takes such a trip and it proves very beneficial to us during our regular season. Jay Arnold and Alan Gates were captains of this year's Lyn and Jay was voted Most Valuable Player by his team- mates. Sophomore Delmont Hanscom was the leading hit- ter and Juniors Andy McLaughlin and Scot Neal as leading pitchers, we can look forward to another good year next year.
