Mat- tanawcook Academy went over its quota by approximately $51. The Senior class won $50 by having the most money per person ($9.14) They were followed by the Freshmen ($8.27), Sophomores ($7. 94), and Juniors ($6. 31). Carol Crocker and Billy Chubbuck were the co-managers this year. Co-team captains for the girls were Darcy O'Brien and Elaine Jordan. Boys' co-team captains were Wilfred Butter- field and Alan Currier. The advisors were Mrs. Barber, Mr. Lucas, and Mr. Worden. The girls team beat the boys by several hundred dollars. Miss Brown's, Mr. Labbe's, and Mr. Butler’s rooms were high homerooms. Each teacher received a prize and students in Room B each received a free ice cream. Besides the successful annual Magazine Drive, the Student Council sponsored a basketball game between the Harlem Diplomats from Canada and the Athletic Booster’s Club. This event proved to be very entertaining. A different and more exciting Win- ter Carnival and Coronation Ball were enjoyed. Camera ( uS The Student Council voted to purchase new photographic equipment for the club this year. A new camera and enlarger, along with many chemicals and accessories were purchased to be used by the club for recording school events. The band has participated in Football games, basketball games, tournaments, assemblies and a Christmas concert. The Band, for the third year, participated in an exchange concert. The band also traveled to Lee Academy this year to entertain them for their Christmas assembly. The Band has had lots of fun attending all of these activities. Our chorus has been under the direction of Mr. Alan Gifford. They have been in the Christmas concert and, as in the past years, will compete in the Maine Music Festival. The Mattanawcook Ski Team, under the direction of Coach John Gatcomb, eagerly awaited the first snow storm to begin practicing for scheduled meets throughout the state. .Mother Nature did not seem to be on their side during the first part of the season, but later she covered the area with snow enough to last for many weeks.
