Currie. football The Mattanawcook Academy Football completed a successful season even though their record doesn't indicate this. Although their record was only a mere 1-7 they played all games at a very close score. The Lynx will miss eight of their regular starters this season. They are P. Shedd, Co-Captain, C. White, K. Hanscom, R. Bowers, J. Thomas, J. Moody, Co-Captain, M. St. Thomas, D. Shorey. Although there is a big loss in the line the team has back some big stand-outs with Hurd, Edgecomb, Gifford, Smith and Phinney. Coach Curry is to be praised highly for his great effort in producing a strong competitive team. The Lynx may have lost a lot of games but they would not have won the only game in three years at the Academy if not for the fine coaching from Curry. Much credit is to be given to the coach along with the team. Cheerleading Top Photo Left to right, STANDING: D. Bates, J. Stevens, J. Dennison, L. Bowers, P. Leen, D. Stevens, C. Joy. KNEELING: S. A. basketball compiled a successful season this year winning fourteen of twenty- one games. The Lynx showed fine basketball as they beat some of their toughest opponents. The Lynx were led by Thomas, St. Thomas, Bowker, Phinney, andD. Smith, Thomas, St. Thomas and D. Smith will be a great loss to the team by reason of graduation. The team had one Freshman, two Sophomores, four Juniors and five Seniors. The Lynx enjoyed their fine sea- son by competing in the Class L Tournament at the Bangor Auditorium. They won in the quarter finals and then were defeated by a strong Orono team in the semi-finals. Leading the Lynx in the scoring department were Mike St. Thomas, D. Smith and B. Bowker. The Lynx had one of the best defensive clubs with strong work from Phinney, Smith and Thomas. The Lynx should look forward to another fine season next year with Bowker, Whitten, Phinney, Boone, R. Smith, T. Smith and Madore. High tribute should be paid to Coach Fletcher for moulding the team into the champion- ship group we had. ‘Jaym Basketball Left - right: Coach Doughty, Francis Willette, manager, D. Aiken, S.
